Dabangg, dabangg dabangg, dabangg…..This we guess suffices the whole review. Frenzy, crazy, whirling, stimulating, wild and freaky - ‘Dabangg’ surely has a whole of it and much more. Chulbul Pandey (oh! we are sorry – it’s Robin Hood Pandey) surely has a control over his area and people. What’s more, he has a control over box office collections as well! An out-and-out entertainment, Salman Khan has given his fans one more chance to love him all the more dearly and this time it’s gonna be a fanatic fan following. Though playing the age old flute of good over evil, ‘Dabangg’ comes out as a clear winner and is all up sleeves to take the box office to an all new high. With masala films slowly fading away in the thin sky, the movie refreshes the mind and the soul and promises paisa wasool entertainment.
Co-written by writer-director Abhinav Kashyap, ‘Dabanng’ is housed in Uttar Pradesh. The movie centers on Chulbul Pandey, a totally fearless but corrupt police officer, who is nothing but an unstoppable force. Remember the lines of a popular Hindi song, naye packet mein beeche tumko chiz purani. Dabangg is everything of that and much more. The movie harps on age old Bollywood formula of a mother-son love relationship, coupled with half-brother and step-father hatred. Roll this up with loads of action sequence and garibo ka maseeha funda and you would end up having a usual Bollywood pandemonium at your disposal. Though this might sound ordinary, what’s extraordinary is the packaging. Dabangg is saucy, slick and polished.
They say, actors have a star value and power which they exude. They say it right! Salman in a never-seen-before act stomps his way out in the film and creates the magic and star power, which camouflages all the pitfalls. So, whether it is delivering the witty one-liners or trudging the opponents or even doing the Rajnikant tricks, you would be bound to love him. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Dabangg is dependent on three pillars, Salman's star power, superb stunts and foot-tapping music. Newcomer Sonakshi also needs to be applauded for delivering a neat performance. Despite the vast age difference, the two look good together. Arbaaz Khan is stony as usual. As for Vinod Khanna, guess he was asked to portray just two expressions, that of anger and helplessness.
Director Abhinav Kashyap gets a ‘hats off’ for delivering a vintage formula with grace, humor and subtlety. However, needless to say, just like a coin which has two sides, Dabangg also comes with its share of shortcomings. Though the movie comes with entertaining dialogues and good characterization, what rips off the drama is an engaging narrative. Dabangg fails to create a link, so much so that you can be sure to be bombarded with random plots and haphazardly placed scenes. Also, after a certain point of time, you get overwhelmed with the extra dose of fighting. Nevertheless, we still recommended the movie as it still manages to surface all the pitfalls and emerge out as a clear blockbuster!
Last Call: For Salman Khan fans and non Salman Khan fans, this is a must watch. While the former would cement their love for this actor, the latter are sure to find a reason to start loving him!
Dabangg Pre-release Review
After the triumphant success of action-packed ‘Wanted’, Bollywood hunk Salman Khan is back with yet another action-thriller titled ‘Dabangg’. With a fresh concept in hand, the movie also launches several new and fresh talent into the film industry, the most prominent being Arbaaz Khan (as a producer), Abhinav Kashyap (as a director) and Sonakshi Sinha (as an actor). While Arbaaz Khan has turned producer with this forthcoming flick, ‘Dabangg’ also marks as the debut film of Abhinav Kashyap, brother of much-acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, as director and Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter, Sonakshi as the female lead. The lyrics of the movie have been penned by Jalees Sherwani, Faiz Anwar and Lalit Pandit, while the music has been composed by duo Sajid-Wajid. ‘Dabangg’ is set to release on 10th September, 2010.
‘Dabangg’ is set in the city of Laalganj in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The movie revolves around a corrupted police officer, Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) who uses unorthodox working methods to fight his fears. Nevertheless, even the most fearless has to once fight back his inner fiends. Chulbul has had a terrible childhood with his father passing away too early. As if the loss was small, his mother Nalini (Dimple Kapadia) marries Prajapati Pandey (Vinod Khanna) and has another son, Makhanchan (Arbaaz Khan). As expected, Prajapati favors Makhanchan which annoys Chulbul. Hence, he decides to separate with the family, but still is attached with Nalini. However, after the death of his mother, he breaks all ties with stepfather and step-brother once and for all.
The entry of shy and charming Rajo (Sonakshi Sinha) takes Chulbul’s life to a new phase, all together. The negative and crooked Chulbul learns the positives of life and the true meaning of a family. But how can our desi film be complete without a villain? Thus, we have the dubious Cheddi Singh (Sonu Sood) who successfully creates disputes between the two brothers. Makhanchan follows Cheddi religiously only to realize that he had been used. To mend his mistake, he turns towards Chulbul, but Chulbul is reluctant. Now, will accept his brother’s helping hand? Will the two brothers be able to reunite?
‘Dabangg’ attempts to bring the involvement of police in the unlawful practices followed in UP and Bihar into the limelight. The movie has already created many waves in the industry with its promising promos. What’s more? Speculations about the success of ‘Dabangg’ are already doing the rounds, as the audience expects the movie to open at the box office with a 'bang'. Good news for all Salman Khan fans. Catch up your hot hunk in a complete new avatar donning negative shades. Let’s wait till 10th September, 2010 to see whether Salman Khan will once again be successful in creating oomph or not, just like ‘Wanted’.
