Nagavalli movie review roundup: Does Venkatesh deliver?
Looking for a “Nagavalli” movie review roundup? Critics are buzzing about the new “Nagavalli “Telugu movie, which hits theaters today in India. Venkatesh’s new film centers on a Mysore family that is torn apart after one family member receives a painting The film is directed by P Vasu and also stars Anushka Shetty, Richa Gangopadhyay and Shraddha Das, and it’s the remake of “Aptha Rakshaka” as well as the sequel to Rajinikanth’s “Chandramukhi.”
Read on to see excerpts from “Nagavalli” reviews.
Telugu Film Reviews: “Nagavalli’s screenplay is the major plus point they say. Opening sequences and interval point are bang on target as per unofficial reports. The flashback part is said to be the highlight of the film. However, few doubts are being expressed over climax of the movie. All in all, Nagavalli is carrying positive reports from all the circuits.
The Bollywood Actress: As a super natural thriller, Nagavalli is successful in creating excitement and maintaining suspense with new twists and twirls but, looking as a sequel to Chandramukhi, Nagavalli fails to take us to the high expectations.
Cinegoer.com: Venkatesh competes with himself in the dual role, if he is quietly effective as the doctor, he pulls it off with an aura aura adding his distinct touch. In his role of a villainous king, one wonders if he’s the same person..tuning in authentic work. Director Vasu crafts the film well, paces it efficiently, getting exactly what he needed from each actor and crew. Finally..there is nothing to dislike in the film but there isn’t enough to love either.

No Problem Hindi Movie 2010 Review: Cast: Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Suneil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Sushmita Sen, Kangana Ranaut Rating: Director: Anees Bazmee
Anees Bazmee roped in some big stars like Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Akshaye Khanna and Kangna Ranaut and then he forgot to give them proper characterization and script. As a result, we all see ‘No Problem’ releasing today on the theaters.
Anil plays a clumsy cop, who is after two crooks Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna. To make him more confused, a gangster played by Suniel Shetty and his moll Neetu Chandra enters the scenario. Sushmita Sen returns to comedy as the schizophrenic wife of Anil Kapoor. Kangana Ranaut is a bimbette on the beach and Paresh Rawal is a puppet in the hands of all those madcaps.
A cachet of stolen diamonds and the run by all the characters behind this creates the confusion in the story. Bazmee tries hard to tickle your fun bones until you burst out with the silly and stupid acts of the characters. It is all about a chaos created by all these characters in the film. Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, who are working first time together, have gone wasted with some senseless and silly acts.
The comedy king Paresh Rawal tries his best to set the comic timing right but all goes in vain. Kangana Ranaut, who was trying to come out of her disturbed girl image with this comedy flick, tried to add some glamor with dazzling clothes and fiercely blown lips. But she does not get enough space to prove her comic act.
In brief, it is not the one movie, which you would like to watch for a weekend relaxation!

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey Hindi Online Movie Review: Genre: Adventure, Period Director: Ashutosh Gowariker Producer: Ajay Bijli, Sanjeev K. Bijli, Sunita Gowariker Banner: PVR Pictures, Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Music Director: Sohail Sen Lyricist: Javed Akhtar Star Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sikander Kher, Vishakha Singh, Samrat Mukherji, Maninder Singh, Feroz Wahid Khan, Shreyas Pandit, Amin Gazi, Rohan Painter, Smit Sheth, Palash Muchhal, Nitin Prabhat, Narendra Bindra, Paarth Mandal, Mohsin Khan, Abbas Khandwawala, Shubham Patekar, Gaurav Sethi, Aakash Joshi, Vikramjeet Virk, Jan Bostock, Monty Munford, Francis Matthews, Paul Gatward, John Tassi, John Pollard, Robert Drury, Aamir Khan Release Date: December 3, 2010
Ashutosh Gowariker is back! And this time he brings us a tale of youthful courage and determination well wound with his favourite emotion of patriotism. But no matter how much we’d like to say that he is back with a bang, Gowariker’s latest movie Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey hardly qualifies for a must-watch and registers its presence in the company of brilliantly conceived but averagely executed patriotic movies. It definitely falls more than just a few miles short of Lagaan in its appeal and character individuality. While Lagaan was a fictional yet splendid, account of a bunch of villagers beating the Brits at their own game, quite literally, KHJJS, based on a true story, fails to invoke the pathos of the common man the same way.
KHJJS is the tale of the Chittagong uprising gone wrong. It talks about a dynamic and fiery school teacher who led a band of 2 headstrong women, 5 passionate revolutionaries and 56 teenage kids into the den of the British and created a night of immense terror in the ruling hearts. Later however, the British acted out of frustration and hunted all till the last one of them was brutally massacred. Inspired by Manini Chatterjee’s book, Do and Die: The Chittagong Uprising 1930 – 34, KHJJSseeks to glorify the sheer courage and resonance of the teenage revolution of Chittagong. The uprising doesn’t find too many textbook references and that could have easily worked in favour of the movie essentially because of its fresh appeal. But the lofty dialogues and the boring stretches make the movie lose its mark and leave the viewers wanting for more.
Even the rage and fervor of the lead character Surjya Sen are not manifest in Abhishek Bachchan’s benevolent and ever-smiling disposition and the viewers wait in vain to catch a glimpse of Gurukant Desai in him. But the day is saved with Deepika Padukone portraying Kalpana Dutta and Sikandar Kher portraying Nirmal with passionate zeal. But the raging passions and fires in the bellies of the young revolutionaries that the book talks about fail to get captured in the movie and hence the connection with the common viewer snaps prematurely. However, the zeal of some young characters keeps the movie alive and scenes depicting kids trying to discuss and understand the meaning of Vande Matram keeps things on track.
The first half of the movie revolves around planning, financing and coordinating the revolution and becomes drudging owing to the barrage of characters introduced and the monotony of the scheming scenes. The second half of the movie speaks action and hence gathers momentum. The scenes depicting the revolutionaries’ attempts at attacking the cantonment area inspire awe amongst the viewers and are duly followed by some serious tear-jerking penultimate scenes which inspire rapt attention from the viewers.
Overall, coming from Gowariker, the movie raises fans’ expectations a tad bit too high but despite his best and most sincere efforts, unfortunately falls quite flat when it comes to living up to the same. A onetime watch you ask? Definitely yes. But you wouldn’t want to spend the weekend with this one.
Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey Pre-release Review It seems that producer-director Ashutosh Gowariker success rate is solely dependent on signature period sagas. After ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Jodha Akbar’, it’s the youth revolutionary flick ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’ from his kitty. Based on the Manini Chatterjee novel ‘DO AND DIE: The Chittagong Uprising 1930’, the movie is a period thriller highlighting India’s struggle for independence. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the movie features Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in the leading roles. The film has been produced by Ajay Bijli, Sanjeev K Bijli, and Sunita Gowariker, under the banner Ashutosh Gowariker and PVR Pictures. The serious and energetic soundtrack of the movie, composed by Sohail Sen and penned by renowned Javed Akhtar, oozes out sense of patriotism. ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’ is set to hit the theaters on 3rd December, 2010.
First comes first, do not be mistaken by the word ‘khelein’ to be a game similar to what was portrayed in ‘Lagaan’. In fact, the title of this true story revolves around the struggle and emotions of the youngsters of the 1930s era during the British rule. Date: 18 April 1930. A group of 64 members, led by freedom fighter-idealistic leader-teacher Surjya Sen (Abhishek Bachchan) and his comrades-in-arms, attack two armories in Chittagong, West Bengal raising the Indian National Flag to attain independence from the decade-old British rule. Forming this band are the forgotten heroes Kalpana Datta (Deepika Padukone), Pritilata Waddekar (Vishakha Singh), Nirmal Sen (Sikander Kher), Ambika Chakraborty (Shreyas Pandit), and other defiant and fearless revolutionaries.
With this, begins the bloody journey of underground movements, daring escapes, tragic captures, thrilling attacks, and their undying legacy. After last year’s debacle of ‘What’s Your Raashee’, Ashutosh Gowariker hopes to return back to the box office hit squad with ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’. Touted to be a period thriller, rather than the usual pre-independence era flicks, will this inspirational film attract enough audience and create awareness about the untold story of these forgotten heroes? Will the new leading pair of Abhishek-Deepika be able to create sizzle chemistry on-screen? You got to wait until 3rd December, 2010 when ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’ releases and check it out for yourself.

Rakta Charitra 2 Hindi Movie Review: Movie: “Rakht Charitra2″; Star cast: Suriya, Vivek Oberoi, Priyamani, Radhika Apte; Directed: Ram Gopal Varma; Rating: *** ½ – better than part I.
In this sequel to Ram Gopal Varma’s month-old film about gangwars during the time of politics and elections we get to see for the first time in a Hindi film Suriya, an actor of searing intensity and devastating emotional velocity. Suriya takes the frontseat in the sequel to create an ambience of implosive violence. Yes, we’ve never seen an actor so controlled in his intensity for a long time. Suriya’s vendetta spree certainly lends an added sheen to the proceedings.
Whether expressing his love for his wife (Priya Mani, over-madeup) and baby or hatred for his opponent Paritala Ravi (Vivek Oberoi, not able to add to his performance from the first part), Suriya’s eyes convey a smouldering universe of indignation injustice grief and anger.
Cleverly Varma has given Suriya long stretches of silence in which the star-actor negotiates his angst-filled journey from betrayal to redemption. Suriya’s lengthy introduction sequence, the even lengthier attempt to kill him in the court house and the long fight sequence in jail are all ‘items’ constructed to spotlight the star’s agile histrionics.
“Rakhta Charitra2″ goes a little slower on the body count than the first part. It is still one of the bloodiest, most violent films in living memory.
This must be the quickest sequel ever. “Rakht Charitra2″ is better, more engaging and riveting in terms of content and drama. Full credit to Ram Gopal Varma for re-creating the savage world of politics and bloodshed in the Andhra hinterland. With skilled hands, Varma weaves the theme of an internecine war between two Men Who Would Be King In The Concrete Jungle.
The background score and editing highlight the ruthless profile of the hinterland. “Rakht Charitra 2″ goes beyond the first part in pursuit of the savage impulses that accentuate the hunger for power. Suriya has the most pained eyes since Om Puri in “Aakrosh”. Between the pleading and the bleeding that are projected into his character, Suriya proves himself the discovery of the year.
Watch “Rakht Charitra2″ for Suriya. And then watch it for the parable of violence that Ram Gopal Varma continues to construct in search of a meaning for the cinema beyond surface beauty.

Two young boys are sent to a remand home for a murder they didn’t commit. Director:Faruk Kabir
Cast:Naseruddin Shah, Sharman Joshi, Faruk Kabir,
Atul Kulkarni, Anjana Sukhani
Rating:**
Two young boys are sent to a remand home for a murder they didn’t commit. Much abuse is heaped upon them by a sadistic warden and his cohorts ; when they come out after several years, they’ve got crime on their minds.
Some of ‘Allah Ke Banday’ reminds you of ‘Sleepers’; some of it is ‘City Of God’; it also references several recent similarly themed Hindi films touching upon the slumkids-crime-life axis. In the taut first half, first time director Faruk Kabir gets most of it right. The plain hard thing that living poor and defenceless in a heartless slum can be, the getting into wrong company, and setting off on the path of no return : these are things we’ve seen before but this take is all right up to the point the boys ( Joshi and Kabir, the director) grow up, develop muscles and attitude, and come back for revenge.

Break Ke Baad Hindi Movie Review: Film: Break Ke Baad Starring: Imran Khan, Deepika Padukone, Shahana Goswami, Yudhishtr Urs, Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol and Lillete Dubey. Rating: Director: Danish Aslam.
With a promise of entertaining the youth, debutant director Danish Aslam tries to offer you an old story with some new twists and turns incorporated in it. However, you will enjoy the chemistry between the two young leads Imran Khan as Abhay and Deepika Padukone as Aaliya. They are childhood sweethearts, who share their first kiss when they watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for the third time. So, it’s genuinely a love story but with some added fun elements.
Aaliya is ambitious, gorgeous and stubborn while Abhay is aimless in his life. For Aaliya, love is not everything and wants to be a renowned actress. But they can’t stay without each other even when they fight. You must have seen her saying ‘Main Shah Rukh Khan hu’ during the promos and that is one funny seen where she is totally drunk. Even though, she is insensitive sometimes but knows Abhay is the strong pillar of her life.
To fulfill her ambition, Aaliya leaves for Australia and Abhay follows her. Here, you can see some funny but confusing scenes between them. Finally, Lillette Dubey enters the scene and she does not mind calling Aalia ‘chudail’ even when she has divorced thrice in her own life.
It has a soulful music and a story that youth can relate to. So, it’s not a bad idea to watch the movie during this weekend with friends!

Cast Makrand Deshpande, Nagesh Bhosle, Preetika Chawla, Shahrukh Khan...... Special Appearance, Sanjay Dadheech, Kay Kay Menon, Choyoti Ghosh, Afzal Khan
Movie Report Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu is a film written and directed by actor director Makrand Deshpande. It is an occasionally engaging story about a flower girl, Laali played nicely by Preetika Chawla, whose life changes when Shah Rukh Khan stops at the signal where she sells flowers and compliments her on her beauty. The film is a comment on our obsession with stars, on how deeply Hindi cinema permeates our lives and also, how cinema elevates ordinary people into deities.
The story revolves around a young girl called Lali (Preetika Chawla), who is a huge Shahrukh Khan fan sells flowers at traffic signals. On one such working day when she goes out to sell her flowers, she spots the super star, Shahrukh Khan at the signal. As she is busy trying to convince him to buy her flowers, Shahrukh happens to casually give her a compliment and tells her she is beautiful. This casual statement becomes the greatest turning point in the flower seller's life.
Being a young girl and as obsessed as any other young girl in the country with stars, she changes her entire thinking process and starts to live a life of fantasy. Lali begins to avoid the local book seller John who had a soft corner for her and who in turn goes to seek solace in the arms of the bar girl who always had had an eye on John.
Thus, as Lali lives in her own life of self boosted energy which was the result of just one statement from the super star Shahrukh Khan, John is fast being convinced by the bar girl to change his profession and start driving an auto rickshaw, a very common form of transport in the cosmopolitan city of Mumbai.
The other characters like the local cop and a journalist are also dragged into the drama that ensues due to Shahrukh Khan's statement.
The film has moments of insight and irony. There is a real sweetness and ache to Laali's devotion to the star. I also enjoyed the feisty, always-ready-for-a-fight bar girl but sadly Makrand's script sags under the weight of his ideas and never takes off. A film like this required more inventive and flamboyant writing. The second half especially is repetitive and meandering and the characters aren't engaging enough to carry the narrative. The boyfriend John is so limp that you wonder why any of these girls are willing to settle for him.
Peformance wise, Preetika Chawla is flawless. She is just natural in her acting. Nagesh Bhosale and Makrand Deshpande, both are efficient. Shahrukh khan has a briefe role in this film. Rest of the cast comprises of new faces largely and each of them delivers pure performances.
On the whole, Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu is just an average film. This film has nothing much to offer.

view GUZAARISH videos
GUZAARISH took me back to a certain period of my life. I was grumpy and constantly fretting over miniscule things. I used to lose my patience at the drop of a hat. Then an incident changed my outlook towards life. GUZAARISH has the same potential.
This film is special for more reasons than one. After DHOOM 2 and JODHAA AKBAR, it sees the re-union of two of the finest actors in the film industry- Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Director Sanjay Leela Bansali is donning the director's hat after almost three years. It also deals with a very sensitive issue of Euthanasia (mercy killing).
He was the best magician in town. But a fatal accident left Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan) paralysed and bedridden for life. Presently hosting a Radio show 'Hello Zindagi' Ethan spreads hope to listeners through his inimitable wit and humour. For twelve years, he's being aided by nurse Sofia D'Souza (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), who's much more than a nurse.
On the fourteenth anniversary of his accident, Ethan decides to make a petition to the court for Euthanasia (He prefers calling it Ethanasia). This leaves his best friend and lawyer Devyani (Shernaz Patel) and Sofia in complete disarray. Meanwhile, a young man named Omar Siddiqui (Aditya Roy Kapoor) enters Ethan's world with a steadfast desire to learn magic from him.
First things first. GUZAARISH is not an abstract and ambiguous film. It's a simply narrated film made with a lot of heart. Although it's sensitive, it never gets dukhi. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has treated the grave issue of mercy killing with maturity. Although it's about a suffering person who wants to end his life, its message is about celebrating life. The best part about the film is that it involves you as a viewer. You surely feel for Ethan's plight. He leaves you smiling in many scenes and moist-eyed in some.
The first half is so breezy that you don't realise when it gets over. The second half is a bit of a drag. Like KAL HO NAA HO and the more recent PAA, GUZAARISH's narrative is very light-hearted laden with humorous moments. Ethan says, 'God pe bharosa hai, isiliye I am dying to meet him.' Also, the scene in which Sofia gives Ethan a leg massage is uproarious.
There are some really poignant moments that leave a lasting impression. Ethan watches a scarecrow on a field, which is symbolic to his own condition. The court-room scenes are just too good. While you expect Ethan to give a long monologue, he conveys everything through his 60-seconds magic trick.

Review
Story
Seenu (Varun) is going for his second marriage and he meets Nimisha (Nisha Shah) while Avantika (Nisha Agarwal) is also going for her second marriage and meets Yuva (Shashank). Both of them decide to tell about their past to their prospective life partners. The flashback reveals how Seenu and Avantika meet each other, fall in love, get married against their parents wishes and in no time, get separated as well. Now, the time comes when they are almost about to get married to their new partners. Whether they move on with their life or will their love and the essence of marriage stop them forms the rest of the story.
Artists Performance:
Varun Sandesh has given a spirited performance. His foreign accent has reduced but he should not have forced the Telangana accent that looked superficial. He did his best to keep the film going. Telugu Movie Reviews
Nisha resembles Kajal in side angles and she looks cute. However, there is a lot of stiffness in her body language and it will take another three or four films for her to get that confidence and screen presence.
Vennela Kishore is a show stealer. In fact, he is the person who brings in some really nice moments of humor. It is about time the Tollywood folks give this talented performer some meatier roles and better banners.
Shashank did his bit as required but then he seems to have lost his confidence in front of the camera. His performance looked quite brittle, the flow and talent he showed in ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’ was missing completely.
Nisha Shah looks voluptuous and seductive. She is comfortable and has the right kind of looks. If she can work on reducing her flab, she has the potential to grab few more offers.
Pragathi was elegant, few of her dialogues were quite thought provoking. MS Narayana and Krishna Bhagawan were brief, Madhu Sharma showed her oomph in the item song. Jhansi was okay.
Highlights:
* Vennela Kishore’s comedy * The scenes where Pragathi reminds Nisha about the value of parents and the essence of marriage * Varun’s dialogue on Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya
Disappointments:
* Cheap and sleazy comedy * The portrayal of girls in Ameerpet hostel and the portrayal of men on the whole * Double meaning dialogues * Songs and background score * The cause of break up between Varun and Nisha looks absolutely silly * The urge to have physical relationship and how Varun keeps begging Nisha for that

Review
Story
Satyanarayana Murthy (Chiranjeevi) is a good hearted man in Amalapuram. The sudden death of his niece comes as a rude shock to him. But later on, he realizes that it was not a natural death, but died due to a careless shootout. He visits Hyderabad in search of the culprit who killed his niece. The rest of the story is all about how he accomplished it with the help of divine intervention and Neelima (Bhumika Chawla).
Artists Performance
Chiranjeevi: Chiranjeevi is in his elements again in this film by playing it to the galleries in comedy department. 70% of the scenes involving Chiranjeevi are dealt in humorous way. The way Chiranjeevi performs while kidnapping Sunil, making bakra out of Brahmanandam and church marriage scene is just perfect. His portrayal of affection towards his niece in flashback episode is also good. Dances performed are satisfactory.
Others: Sameera Reddy is the glamour doll of this film. She is nice and did Shakeera trademark dances. Bhumika Chawla who enters into the film in the second half plays a pivotal role. But her characterization is passive. Arbaz Khan is adequate as villain. Rahul Dev and Jaya Prakash Reddy are OK. Pingpong gave a commendable performance in an author-backed role of Rasool. Sunil is entertaining as innocent son of Jaya Prakash Reddy. Brahmanandam's episode in USA is nice. Tanikella Bharani as visa agent is hilarious. The child actress who did the role of niece is extremely cute. Venu Madhav is adequate.
Technical Departments:
Screenplay - direction: Vijaya Bhaskar is known for directing films that blend love, humor and sentiment in the right proportions. For the first time he has dealt with revenge story in this film. But the comedy in the film is given lot of footage. Screenplay should have been better. Though the comedy is entertaining, the purpose of the lead man taking revenge was not projected in an effective way. The divine intervention aspect and parallels to Ramayana are also not well established.
But his style of cooking up scenes laced with humor is intact. The following episodes in the film put you into splits
1. Ten Downing Street pub humor 2. Comedy episode in Delhi Public School 3. Sunil kidnap episode 4. Comedy of Marriage in Church 5. Brahmanandam in USA
The following episodes are impressive in terms of sentiment
1. Flashback episode 2. Hero caring for the girl suffering as child labor 3. Pingpong episode
The following films seem to have inspired certain scenes
1. Payback: Phone bomb planted by goons is being cleverly used by hero to assassinate them. 2. Fatal attraction: Boiling a puppy.
Story - dialogues: Story of the film is pretty strong one if emotions could be brought out in an effective way. Dialogues by Trivikram have his trademark punches and sensible humor. The way he makes lighter vein comedy out of seemingly general things is excellent.
Here are a couple of scenes that shows how Trivikram plays with words and situations to generate neat humor
After rescuing a lady in the train Hero: Emi Chaduvutunnavamma Girl: Swathi Hero: Bandi lo kaadamma, ballo!
While going to USA in Hyderabad airport MS Narayana: Eevida evarandi? Chiranjeevi: Maa Aavida MSN: Mari eevida evaru? Frienda leka neighbora? Chiranjeevi: Naaku kaboye pellam MSN: Abbo nuvvu Americalo vundalsina vaadivi! Chiranjeevi: Avunu. Akkadike Veltunna.
Other departments: Music by Mani Sharma appears better on screen compared to listening on the audio tape. Cinematography by Venu (NVNV fame) is OK. Production values by Vyjayanthi banner are good.
Analysis: First half of the film is satisfactory with entertainment. There is lag in the second half. Sunil, marriage and Brahmanandam episodes are dealt well in the second half. Climax should have been handled better. The plus points of the film are Chiranjeevi and comedy dialogues by Trivikram. On the flipside, the main revenge objective of hero was not efficiently projected. We have to wait and see how Jai Chiranjeeva! fares at the box office!
Race Hindi Movie Review: It looks like Race is going to be the one of the big hits of 2008. The latest thriller made by Bollywood thriller masters Abbas-Mustan’s is an A-class entertainer. Sexy women in short clothes, handsome hunks, beautiful locations, good stunts, lots of songs with catchy rhythm and loud music (except ‘Pehli Nazar Mein’) is a good definition of a masala flick. On an average, the reviewers gave the movie a rating of 2.5/3 in 5 and 7 in 10. The major allegation against the movie makers- the story and narration is not so edgy. The good things about the movie: Allan Amin’s stunt sequences, Saif Ali and Akshaye Khanna’s acting and Bipasha and Katrina’s sex appeal (the last one works for me very well :)
Ok, now let us look at the reviews. What they say about the movie.
Glamsham gives it a rating of 2.5. According to the review, Race repeats the step-bro angle of Raqueeb. Moreover, the story is confusing, when did Bipasha and Saif meet to hatch a plan? What is the significance of Katrina Kaif? The directors failed to give a convincing story. However, Allan Amin is the true hero of the movie. His stunt works are fabulous. Anil is playing a Xerox copy character of Karamchand. Saif has done a great job. The movie is worth a watch.

Bava Movie Review
Siddharth is one amongst the very few actors who has worked with new directors in a majority of his movies. In this movie as well, he has introduced another debutant director, Rambabu for Baava.
Story:
Veerababu (Siddharth) is a carefree and naughty village lad of Venkatapuram in East Godavari. Along with his set of friends (Prasad, Venu and others), the whole village is crazy about him. His parents love their only son a lot – especially his father, Sitaram Prasad (Rajendra Prasad).
Siddharth chances upon and falls in love with Varalakshmi (Pranitha), who belongs to a well-to-do and large family of a nearby village. Vara, however, does not respond to his overtures despite Veera wooing her incessantly. But Vara soon realizes that Veera is her childhood friend and she falls in love with him.
During this time, Vara’s father (Ahuti Prasad) who enjoys a high status in society pressurizes her to get married to the son of a neighboring village head. Vara asks Veera to something and they end up getting married. However, Veera’s father (Rajendra Prasad) refuses to accept Vara because she is the daughter of Veerababu’s maternal uncle. Rajendra Prasad convinces his daughter-in-law (heroine) to go back to her house and says that he will perform their wedding only with acceptance of her family.
Why Veerababu’s mother never visits her relatives’ home, what happens after Veera’s father sends Varalakshmi back to her home and does Veera succeed in his love story – all these form the rest of the story.

Action Replayy Hindi Movie Review: Director : Vipul Shah Music : Pritam Chakraborthy Lyrics : Irshad Kamil Starring : kshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randhir Kapoor, Kiron Kher, Om Puri, Neha Dhupia and Aditya Roy Kapoor The retro fever has certainly caught Bollywood big time! First it was Farah Khan's OM SHANTI OM, which paid a classic tribute to the 70s. To execute a retro theme in a narrative isn't a piece of cake and Farah executed it with aplomb. Then, in this year itself, came Milan Luthria's ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, which was about the growth of Mumbai's underworld. Now, Vipul Shah takes us back to the past with his retro comedy, ACTION REPLAYY.
Based on a famous Gujarati play of the same name, ACTION REPLAYY also sees the reunion of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar after KHAKEE. Also, Vipul Shah is back with his blue-eyed boy Akshay after AANKHEN, WAQT and NAMASTEY LONDON.
The plot is inspired from Robert Zemeckis' BACK TO THE FUTURE, a time-travel comedy. Bunty (Aditya Roy Kapoor) loves his girlfriend Tanya (Sudeepa Singh) but doesn't want to marry her. Why? Because of his parents, Kishen (Akshay Kumar) and Mala (Aishwarya Rai). He has seen them quarrelling all through their married life. One day, Tanya's grandfather, Professor Anthony Gonsalves (Randhir Kapoor), gives him the choice to either marry Tanya or forget her forever. Using Professor's time machine, he transports himself to the 70s and plans to rewrite his parents' destiny.
If you're expecting a fun ride with loads of gags coupled with romance and drama, you are in for a disappointment. There are just a few smile-inducing moments in this otherwise lackadaisical film.
view ACTION REPLAYY stills
The retro look and feel manages to entice. But the narrative gets so overtly hackneyed, that you are waiting for Bunty to come back to the present time. Its predictable story is treated frivolously by Vipul Shah, especially the dragging second half. There are songs aplenty, that don't help in taking the story forward. Even the uninspiring climax is a turn-off.
It has this glaring loophole. It's difficult to comprehend why nobody questions Bunty on his bizarre clothing, when he frequently calls Kishan and Mala, dad and mom respectively, or when he keeps telling about the future events. Pritam's music score is just okay with only Zor ka jhatka being good.
Akshay Kumar delivers a decent performance. But it's getting tiring to see him in similar comedy roles now. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays her bubbly character with panache. But the chemistry between them Akshay and Aishwarya is missing. Rannvijay Singh is good in his bad role. Aditya Roy Kapoor does a decent job. However, his acting reminds one of Farhan Akhtar. Kirron Kher and Om Puri don't have much to do. Neha Dhupia is wasted.
This time-travel is a wearing journey. Truly, Zor ka jhatka hai zoron se laga.
Rohit Shetty begins GOLMAAL 3 with a few collage shots of GOLMAAL and GOLMAAL RETUNS. He has every reason to do so. After all, both clicked with the audiences and set the cash registers ringing. But they also bring with them a humongous set of expectations for GOLMAAL 3.
GOLMAAL 3 promises to be bigger. Not only the characters, the number of action sequences, gags are a lot more than the previous two editions. You also have a dog this time named 'Facebook'.
After GOLMAAL, GOLMAAL RETURNS and ALL THE BEST, Ajay Devgn teams up with Rohit Shetty yet again this Diwali. Their combination has proved to be very successful. Also, in the recent past, Ajay has excelled doing comedy and action, something which this film has aplenty.
The story bears resemblance to Basu Chatterjee's 1978 film, KHATTA MEETHA starring Ashok Kumar and Pearl Padamsee. Its plot bears no similarity to GOLMAAL or GOLMAAL RETURNS. Set in Goa, it follows the story of two groups who can't stand each other. Gopal (Ajay Devgn) lives with his brother Laxman (Shreyas Talpade), mother Geeta (Ratna Pathak Shah) and friend Daboo (Kareena Kapoor). The other group led by Madhav (Arshad Warsi) includes Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor) and Laxman (Kunal Khemu). Pritam (Mithun Chakraborty) is their father, who was in a relationship with Geeta. They meet after many years and realise their old spark is still alive. Daboo somehow gets them married, thereby bringing the two rival groups together. You also have a thief with a short term memory loss, Puppy (Johnny Lever) and his sidekicks played by Vrajesh Hirjee and Sanjay Mishra who are on a hunt to find a necklace.
view GOLMAAL 3 stills
Like the previous two films, GOLMAAL 3 doesn't boast of a splendid storyline and relies basically on the gags and the performances. It oscillates between being tremendously hilarious and tremendously boring. The gags rely basically on puns. If you are not turned off by Johny Lever kissing Arshad Warsi, you'll have a good time.
You wish the writing was more consistent. It starts on positive and funny note but doesn't manage to hang on to it. However, it comes back strongly in the zany climax, involving the entire cast. The dialogues are witty and fresh. The copious action sequences involving blowing cars, fail to enthrall as we've seen them
Be prepared to roll on the floor laughing in the spoof of GHAJINI or PAA. Even Arshad Warsi comparing Mithun's age with God is uproarious. The GOLMAAL team loves to take a dig at people from the film industry and this time, their bakras are Shahid Kapoor and Aamir Khan.
Most of the performances are rocking. Ajay Devgn, though reminds one of Nana Patekar, is excellent. Kareena Kapoor is passable in her tomboy role. Like before, Tusshar Kapoor is outstanding. Watch out for his emotional outburst with the entire gang. Arshad Warsi is excellent and his comic timing is awesome. But the real stars are undoubtedly Mithun Chakraborty and Johny Lever. They are just perfect and manage to make you laugh every time they appear on screen. Ratna Pathak Shah is admirable. Shreyas Talpade doesn't impress in his stammering act. Kunal Khemu is a valuable addition to the cast. Sanjay Sharma imitates Jeevan again after ONE TWO THREE. Vrajesh Hirjee, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar are good in their small roles.
If you enjoyed watching GOLMAAL and GOLMAAL RETURNS, chances are you'll like GOLMAAL 3. It's a funny but capricious ride.
Noted MLA Narasimha Reddy (Kitty) has got a trusted aide in the form of Veerabhadriah (Rajendra Gupta) in Anandapuram area.
However, Narasimha’s relative Nagamani Reddy (Kota) is unable to take this for reasons of caste and losing his presence. He plants a seed of friction and in no time, Narasimha Reddy gets Veerabhadriah killed. This enrages Veerabhadriah’s elder son Shankar Ravi (Sushant) and he gets into a killing spree and operates from forests.
Veerabhadriah’s younger son Pratap Ravi (Vivek) who is away from all this gets to know of this and before he realizes, Shankar Ravi also gets killed. He vows revenge on his father and brother’s killers and in this process, Narasimha Reddy, Nagamani Reddy and others are brutally killed. Nagamani Reddy’s son Bukka Reddy (Abhimanyu) who is insane to the core is unable to take this and he becomes Pratap’s main enemy.
Meanwhile, the rise of Pratap as opposite force to Bukka Reddy is noticed by Shivaji Rao (Shatrughan) who sets a new party and he decides to lift Pratap to put an end to Bukka Reddy. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
Artists Performance:
Vivek Oberoi is an apt choice, his eyes deliver the sufficient emotion of revenge and his body language is intense. He has done full justice to his role.
Abhimanyu Singh is a complete show stealer. His menacing looks and his cold blooded performance will give some spine chilling moments.
Shatrughan Sinha was contained and it must be said that traces of real life N T Rama Rao are quite prominent in his gestures and dialogue delivery.
Kota was perfect, Radhika was naturally appealing, Zarina was neat, Tanikella was impressive and he made his presence felt, Rajendra Gupta was adequate, Sushant was brief, Ashish Vidyarthi was alright, Subhalekha Sudhakar was standard, Subrat Dutta was good, the others did their bit as required and added value.
Highlights: Symbolism shots with respect to showing a cycle in Shivaji Rao (Shatrugan Sinha)’s place (recalling TDP and NTR), usage of left had, addressing as ‘brother' are impressive.
Showing a dog barking after the death of Naga Mani Reddy (Kota) depicts ‘kukka chaavu'..That’s impressive.
Ram Moorthy (Tanikella) saying to Pratap Ravi ‘to shave beard as a politician should look clean at face although dirty at heart'
Bukka Reddy’s introduction scene
Disappointments: RGV’s voice over is overflowing. It’s not a radio drama to explain everything with a voice over. Whatever RGV is saying in voice, is being conveyed visually! It disturbed the mood to some extent.
Pratap Ravi stays in forest as per the dialogue. But he stays in a dusty hill area that hardly looks like a forest. It may sound trivial, but when such observations linger in mind, some audience gets distracted from the mood.
Why Dabbunnoda song? The context is not convincing.
Challenges: The subject chosen is quite hard hitting so one needs to have some background information before actually connecting to the film.
Facing criticism with respect to Shivai Rao’s (a replica of NTR) characterization and converting it into publicity element.
Facing criticism and questions with respect to ‘pedda sir' (implying YSR) and again converting it into a publicity element
Mood is suddenly dropping down at the conclusion point of the movie. Waiting till Part-2 to get completeness in feeling is a challenge for audience and it’s challenge for maker to sustain interest for 1 month till Part-2 release.
Final Analysis:
“Goodness or badness can never be anyone’s property. They are situational. If a man is hunger free, he showers only goodness. But if any sort of hunger (be it lust, power craving or greed or vengeance) hits him, he spells badness'.
Rakta Charitra is a fiction based on historical facts. It’s rather powerful to say that it’s a true depiction of human emotions. It’s a tour to extreme human beings.
Ramayan or Mahabharat or any chronicled history in dramatic form depicts the extremities of emotions in every character. For example if Karna is known for generosity, its shown with eccentricity of chopping off his own armored skin to offer for a beggar. If Bheeshma is known for sacrifice, its shown in extreme point of choosing life time celibacy to keep himself and his legacy far from kingship. Any drama holds grip only when the characterizations are strong. This fact was known for dramatists right from Veda Vyasa and Valmiki. Similar path is now chosen by Ram Gopal Varma is depicting a historical fact in dramatic form. Telugu Movie Reviews
He has shown Bukka Reddy as a determined rapist (!) and dedicated murderer (!).The incidents canned around this characterization are extreme in imagination. Pratap Ravi is shown as a bad guy, but for a true reason (since he is chosen to be the hero of the plot).
Ram Gopal Varma is a master of movie making and an expert storyteller. This is seen here yet again. As such, the storyline can be understood in few words and there is nothing unpredictable about it but then it is the way Ramu takes off with each scene and how he gets the viewer into the film which counts.
His screenplay techniques and shot compositions are one of those dexterities he possesses. Perhaps a layman might find the visual appeal to be dim but then there are few flashes of his brilliance which are seen on and off. The focus was more on the emotion of the protagonist and the villain so that is a challenge to handle for more than two hours.
On the other hand, it is not a typical Varma characterization where most of the actors give hard expressions, talk less and convey more. Here the characters speak sufficient and sometimes little verbose!! But still there is a rhythm in their performance and it connects to the regular audience.
On a whole it’s a movie about the raise of a leader.

Rakta Charitra - 1 Hindi Movie Review: Director: Ram Gopal Varma Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Abhimanyu Singh, Shatrughan Sinha
From its bloodbath beginning, Ram Gopal Varma very intensely asserts that brutality, gore, violence are essential characteristics of Rakta Charitra. The story in itself is nothing more than a regular revenge-drama but what makes you connect compellingly with the chronicle is the fact that it’s a biographical adaptation of a real-life character who was once the most dreaded name in South India.
So Paritala Ravi becomes Pratap Ravi (Vivek Oberoi) in RGV’s version of the rebel-turned-politician’s life history. Pratap is an ordinary student who goes against the law and turns an outcast to avenge the assassination of his father and brother by the hands of the upper caste ruling politicos. The rivalry extends between Pratap and the politician’s heir Buka Reddy (Abhimanyu Singh). Pratap comes into power as he joins politics under the party of filmstar-turned-minister Shivaji (Shatrughan Sinha). As he terminates all his enemies, he gains more and more command over the city.
Rather than a disclaimer, the film starts with declaration of being based on a true story. Though the names are faintly amended, the characterizations are clearly derived from real life entities significant in Paritala’s life. Writer Prashant Pandey puts together important events in Paritala’s life, as the first installment of Rakta Charitra establishes the rise of his character. Of course the narrative works only one-dimensionally towards glorifying him as a hero, never showing him in any other perspective. Also elements of fiction (like his love story) are altered in the account to add to the drama and entertainment.
Ram Gopal Varma sticks to his brooding Sarkar style of shot-takings that never goes wrong in an intense drama like this. So Amol Rathod’s cinematography comprises of sepia tones, extreme close-ups shots, unusual angles and erratic movements which at times even do to complete 360. Jayesh Dhakkan’s sound design is hard-hitting and Nipun Gupta’s editing is sharp. Javed Eijaz choreographs raw action sequences which are realistically gruesome with blood essentially written all over it. Even the title song interspersed with Sanskrit shlokas and chants is reminiscent of Sarkar theme track and succeeds in having a similar effect.
Despite being a political drama, Ramu never delves deep into the intricacies of the affairs of the state and keeps the story straightforward for easy understanding. At instances, killings in the film come as unexpected as death would come in real life. The scene where Pratap murders the minister (Kota Srinivasa Rao) in the first half comes so unexpectedly that it takes time to sink into your senses. Evidently it brings back memories of Bhiku Mhatre’s termination from RGV’s Satya (1998). Also in Abhimanyu Singh’s Buka Reddy, Ramu gives you a venomous villain who expresses lust in his eyes and cruelty in his actions, like never seen before.
The pace is fast and doesn’t give you time to ponder over proceedings. Amidst this, you certainly do not appreciate an item number by Sukhwinder Singh. The movie starts with a voiceover and while you assume it would end after the prologue, it continues throughout giving the film a docu-drama feel. Moreover the aged and accented narration irritates after a while. Also the narrative introduces characters of an intelligence officer (Sudeep) and a commissioner (Darshan Zariwala) that never come back in the plot after their one-scene mention. Perhaps Ramu seems to have planted these characters in the prequel to be put into better use in the following episode of Rakta Charitra.
Ram Gopal Varma brings back the Vivek Oberoi that we lost after Company. The actor is in terrific form and pulls off his role very confidently. The angst and attitude that he brings to his character is amazing. Abhimanyu Singh is superlative as the hotheaded and eccentric opponent. Shatrughan Sinha (sans his moustache) is presented like never before. He is authoritative and has immense screen presence. Radhika Apte as Ravi’s love interest is restrained. Ashwini Kalsekar, Zarina Wahab, Kota Srinivasa Rao and Anupam Shyam lend good support.
The film ends rather abruptly as Ramu promises more action in the sequel, showing glimpses of what’s in store, pretty much like a television episode culminates. The viewer’s disappointment for a definite climax is substituted with the anticipation emerging from the introduction of a new opponent to Vivek Oberoi in the form of Suriya. With that Ram Gopal Varma very compellingly pulls off India’s first film conceived in two chapters from its commencement. Finally RGV has better sequels to offer over Phoonk and Agyaat. Looking forward!
Till then relish Rakta Charitra. This is a ‘bloody’ good film.
