Story

Ramu (Sunil) is a hard-working youngster from Hyderabad. He is forced to visit his village in Rayalaseema to sell off his land so that he can invest that money to buy an auto. On his way to village he meets a beautiful girl Aparna (Saloni). Ramineedu (Nagineedu) is a landlord in that village and is obsessed with providing great hospitality to his guests. Due to certain circumstances, Ramu goes to the house of Ramineedu as a guest and Aparna is the daughter of Ramineedu. Ramineedu in the past had few family feuds with Ramu's family. Ramu is not aware of this flashback. Since Ramineedu is known for his hospitality, he doesn’t want to kill Ramu while he stays in his house. The rest of the story is all about how Ramu escapes from his death trap.

Artists Performance

Sunil: We have always seen Sunil doing slap-stick comedy with into-your-face antics in his past movies. He is completely fresh and acted like a normal actor in Maryada Ramanna. He gave a natural and controlled performance. It is tough job and Sunil perfectly executes it. His dances are amazing in two songs and his body language during dances resembles that of Chiranjeevi.

Others: Saloni is refreshing in this movie. She is pretty good. Dubbing done by Sowmya is excellent. New actor Nagineedu impresses with his looks, voice and acting. Brahmaji gets another interesting character in this film after Athadu and Ek Niranjan. Supreet is nice. Rao Ramesh and Kanchi are loud in the movie (may be character demanded it). Anuj Gurwara (Panchadara bomma singer) acted in a small role. A special mention should be given for Ravi Teja who gave voiceover to Sunil’s cycle.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie is simple and wafer-thin. It needs tremendous skills to pen screenplay for this story. Rajamouli comes up with a fabulous job in screenplay department. 70% of the movie takes place in a house. Hero wants to stay in house as villain wants him out of the house. There are three points of view in the story and Rajamouli clearly establishes the situation and plays around with these these points of view. The usage of cycle thread and sketch book thread is also impact-making. The progression in second half might appear slow because of the nature of the story. The director made sure that there is something in climax to make this movie worthwhile. Direction of the film is good. But, Rajamouli couldn’t get some of the scenes right in the movie (example: Kanchi comedy episode in train). The change of heart for Brahmaji also appears forced.

Music: I should give 50% of the credit for the feel in the movie to the music and back ground score. The flashback scene in the beginning of film would have been routine and boring but for the bit song composed by Keeravani. All songs in this movie are good. Keeravani used words in the background score to get the desired impact.

Other departments: Dialogues by Kanchi are neat. Cinematography by Ram Prasad is very good. Sunil never looked so handsome in his earlier movies. The house set constructed by art director Ravinder is excellent. Choreography is excellent. CG work is neat (especially fireflies). Editing is fine. Proper care was taken for costumes and styling by Rama in order to make the artists look natural.

Analysis: First half of the movie is good. Second half is neat. Climax has right emotions to make the audiences come out of the theatre with a good feel. The progression in second half is slow because of the nature of story line. The plus points are Rajamouli’s screenplay and Keeravani’s music/background score. We should appreciate Rajamouli who is riding high on success wave to choose a movie like Maryada Ramanna and directing it. This movie is not without it’s share of flaws, but they fade away because of the treatment given by Rajamouli. I would dare to call Maryada Ramanna as a musical comedy. Go and watch it.

Story:
A group of friends Arjun (Sandeep), Ravi (Venky), Krishna (Chaitanya), Shailu (Shreya Dhanwantari) and Pooja (Riya) who complete their engineering graduation from a college. Everyone had different goals in their life. Arjun wants to become a film director, and had a soft corner towards his junior Mahalakshmi(Suhani). For him his goal is important than his love. Ravi, whose parents die during his childhood, grow up with the help of some relatives, but wants to become an entrepreneur for himself and instead of seeking a job he wants to give job to others. Shailu loves him so much but hesitates to express her love as she doesn’t know what was the opinion of Ravi. Learning this, Ravi proposes her. Krishna had a typical middle-class attitude and has no big goals in his life except five digit salary, four wheeler, three knots and two children and a joyful life. He proposes to Pooja, who is in dire need of a job, to get rid of her parents who used to quarrel every now and then. However, Pooja gets poor marks because of household disturbances, but gets a chance to attend campus recruitment interview and one pervert team leader (Lohit Kumar) helps her to get a job. After joining the job, the team leader try to induce her by several ways and Pooja could not wriggle out of him and this widens the gap between Pooja and Krishna. All these friends, except Krishna, join together at Sandeep’s house for his parents’ marriage anniversary.

Once Pooja’s team leader makes an indecent proposal to her and Pooja goes to Krishna and blames him for misunderstanding her despite four years of friendship. They both go to the team leader and thrash him and Pooja gets rid of the job and gets a job with the firm where Krishna was working. Shailu also tells her parents about her love with Ravi and Ravi goes straight to Shailu’s parents that his aim was to become an entrepreneur and not just do a routine 10 to 5 job. Shailu’s parents appreciate Ravi and agree to wait till he reaches the goal. So, the only one that remains idle is Arjun. He also tries his best but could not achieve his goal in the prescribed one year period set by his father. So, he forces him to go to US for higher studies. Watch the film to know what happens in the end.

Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu 2010 Telugu Movie Review:
n a bid to cash in on the tradition that all the films that came in Telugu with sports backdrop were big hits. Even, Mega Super Good Movies have made an attempt to remake a successful Tamil film Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu in Telugu. While the original had a new director, a new hero and new heroine, the Telugu version too had a debutant director, Tatineni Satya, who is the grandson of senior director Tatineni Prakasa Rao. However, the director’s immaturity played the spoilsport to some extent as the film failed to catch the pulse of the audiences.

Buzz up!
Story:
Suri (Naani) is interested in kabaddi and he used to play with a group of children (Dhanraj, Vinay, Santosh, Siva, Ramesh, Krishna Chaitanya) in his childhood. But after growing up, his teammates never allowed him to play in their team in the local matches. However, the team could never bag a victory in the absence of proper coaching. Despite good interest and commitment, Suri could not get a chance to play in any of the matches.

Once a girl (Saranya Mohan) visits the village for a jatara and Suri loves her at first sight. That girl to appears to be pleased with Suri. After the jatara the girl leaves to Rajahmundry, without revealing her name to Suri. Suri’s friends learn that a tournament is taking place in Rajahmundry and wanted to take part in it. After going there, they come to know that it was a state-level tournament and the players and teams have been picked long ago.

Bheemili team gets a wild card entry with the help of a coach (Kishore) of Hyderabad team. During the tournament, the coach gets insulted by the captain of the Hyderabad team and he parts with Bheemili team and coaches them. Whether the Bheemili team make it to the finals? Did they win the tournament? What happened to the Suri's love story? What kind of moral support the coach gave to the team and made them to fight with commitment to achieve the set target? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.

PLUS:
The plus points in the film is the second half of the movie, when the kabaddi matches were played. Naani has given his best and suited perfectly to the role. He has shown lots of improvement from his first film Ashta Chemma and was able to portray good emotions in the movie. He has done it with good ease, especially in dances sequence and love scenes. He has proved that he is here to stay in films. The audiences got the feel that his body language and histrionics are adequate. Saranya Mohan, who became a known face for the Telugu audiences with Villagelo Vinayakudu and who played heroine in Tamil original. But She did not get much scope to perform and she has very few dialogues in the film. However, her cute smile is impressive and pleasing. In other words, her character has very less importance. Other artistes have done justice to their roles. Camera work by Chittibabu is okay to some extent as he was able to present the village atmosphere perfectly on the screen.

MINUS:
Music by Selva Ganesh is not impressive as the songs were not so melodious and soothing. Even the re-recording remained average. The director, Tatineni Satya, who made his debut with the film failed to narrate the story in an impressive way. He made the audiences remain bored with the nagging and dragging first half to establish the love thread between the hero and heroine. The story gains momentum and by the time, the film reached the climax, the director again spoiled the mood of the audiences by making it a tragedy.

Analysis:
The director’s immaturity made the film boring and despite good performance by the hero, it remained waste. The film neither had an appeal for multiplex audiences nor it could entertain the mass audiences. As a result, the film evoked a below average talk.

Cast: Naani, Saranya Mohan, Kishore, Keerthana, Dhanraj, Vinay, Santosh, Siva, Ramesh, Krishna Chaitanya and others.

Credits: Camera: Chittibabu, Editing – Nandamuri Hari, Dialogues – Chodavaram Chaitanya, Music – Selva Ganesh, Lyrics – Vanamali and Abhinaya Srinivas, Art – Kumar, Presents – RB Choudary, Producers – NV Prasad and Paras Jain, Screenplay and direction – Tatineni Satya.

Lamhaa Hindi Movie 2010 Review:
Starring: Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Kunal Kapoor, Anupam Kher
Written and Directed by: Rahul Dholakia
Rating:

July 19, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):Everyone, says someone important in this searing document of our times, is playing politics in the Kashmir Valley. In a milieu of all-pervasive politics, thank the Lord for a creative voice that can look into the burning Valley with dispassionate compassion.

Lamhaa is one of those docu-dramas that could have easily toppled into the territory of over-statement and over-simplified politics. And boy, haven’t we seen that happen in very successful political cinema in recent times?!

Rahul Dholakia who earlier made the gently persuasive Parzania on the aftermath of the Gujarat riots, doesn’t lose his storytelling equilibrium even when the sitiuations of crises described by the skilfully-written plot scream for attention. Restraint and honesty go hand-in-hand in Dholakia’s Kashmir, which we’d like to believe, is the real Kashmir, unalloyed, non-magnified, intense and utterly devoid of artifice.

The camera moves restlessly through the dangerous crowded main roads and tense bylanes of Kashmir where anything can happen. The cinematographer James Fowlds seems to know the Valley of the damned with the transparent scrupulousness of an insider who can place himself outside the explosive bustle of a portion of earth that’s rapidly slipped into the stratosphere of anarchy and mayhem.

The high-octane screenplay has no space or time to shed tears for the innocent and the dead. Miraculously liberated of overt sentimentality Lamhaa moves with candour and confidence through a world whose politics has become progressively impossible for the outsider to comprehend. Dholakia’s narrative moves through a labyrinth of pain and violence without trying to make common sense of them.

The narrative imposes no morality on the escalated violence of the Valley. Neither does Dholakia get excessively ‘cinematic’ in his approach to the complex material. Most of the time he lets the characters be. The Valley of simmering discontent comes alive in front of us in a ferocious but toned-down swoop of politics and drama.

The narrative moves swiftly and steadily through the characters’ lives. It isn’t always easy to tell who is on the right side , probably because the lines of morality are not just blurred in the Valley, they’ve almost completely disappeared.Jannat is in a limbo.

Lamhaa is a tearless ode to a people who have become so isolated from the mainstream of Indian life that the adorable children openly and abusively talk of India as a separate country. The dialogues(Ashwath Bhatt) spare none, not the politicians and certainly not the other power-brokers who in the films words, have turned Kashmir into a lucrative business company.

At the lowest level Lamhaa is thoughtprovoking mirror of mayhem and misapprehensions on a piece of earth that once was paradise. At the highest level it’s an even-pitched docu-drama which doesn’t mince words nor try to act cute about a throbbing crisis. The pitch is controlled even when the circumstances in the plot are totally out of control.

As Sanjay Dutt walks into the volatile Valley with leonine strides we feel for a while as though Dholakia wants to insinuate a larger-than-life super-hero into headline-driven politics. But Dutt soon blends into the savage fabric of a life lived on the edge by people who have nothing to lose any more.

The film is dotted with memorable cameos. Among the fringe players Shernaz Patel as a woman looking for her husband for 18 years leaves a lingering impact. Among the principal cast Kunal Kapoor as a young militant turned conscientious politician determined to gather peace into the Valley and Anupam Kher as a treacherous political leader get it right dead-on.

But the real revelation is Bipasha Basu.In a powerful role that Shabana Azmi would no doubt have played twenty years ago, Bipasha sinks herself into her character imparting a dramatic resonance into the role without resorting to stock expressions. The sequence where she gets mauled by militant women is as traumatic to watch as it must have been for Bipasha to shoot.

Lamhaa is not an easy film to watch. It comes to no decisive end. It takes into consideration the entire politics of Kashmir without careening towards excessive drama .This is that rare political drama where every component in the jigsaw of politics and terrorism is put on screen with a sensitivity and precision that repudiate melodramatic excesses.

A word of special praise for Mithoon’s songs. The lyrically lush tunes break into the deafening sound of bomb blasts and roaring guns to remind us that once the best poets of Kashmir wrote poetry on the beauty of the Valley.

The beauty of Lamhaa lies in its constant gaze at that beauty that one still glimpses in the shimmering waters of Dal Lake on a quiet and peaceful day.

Review:
Inkosari Telugu Movie Review:
How long has it been since you have met up with your college friends? Did you ever imagine leaving your kids, spouse for a week to catch up with your best friends in college after seven years exactly in the same place you all had loads of fun and memories to cherish? Inkosari has a clichéd reunion theme but debutant director Suman Pathuri narrates the story of six friends and makes them not only accessible to the audience and but brings you a little more closer to their lives. The result is just not fun reminiscing the good old days but each character resurfaces with hidden emotions, connect and share feelings all over again.
Raja bells the cat, he brings the rest of the friends under one roof reminding of their promise to meet atleast once every year. It is not easy though, as every character has issues to deal with. Richa leads a comfortable life with her husband and child but she is a victim of boredom and neglect, so when the reunion talk arises, she discards her saree and gets into her hip clothes to be more in sync with her friends. There is Manjari Fadnis who is engaged to an irritating yoga freak but lets her hair down when Raja gets verbal about his crush for her.
Ravi Verma is sandwiched between his domineering and rich father and an arranged marriage he was forced into. The heart and soul of the film however is Vennela Kishore who is like chocolate chips on an icecream scoop. There are couple of characters more as well.
The director wraps up the entire story beginning with Raja convincing his friends to join him, the gang going around on bikes to their favourite tea stall, visiting their college, trying to settle scores with an opponent and bringing out their little skeletons from their closet. There are touching moments of friends talking about their plus and minus points, a character slapping a college professor because she was once physically abused, she takes her revenge after years and the pain seems to have lessened.
The group relives all the moments, remembering the colours of the clothes they wore to the lectures in the classrooms. What makes the film worth watching is the way the friends express themselves, the initial hesitation then the ease at with they reestablish the connection, the subtle romance and mature handling of their lives.
Times have changed, some lose hair, some put on weight but the bond strengthens as each day passes as they play and spend quite moments. The artistes are little known but varied, unique in their work and each of them remind you of a character who’s been ostensibly present in your group that moved with you for those three or five years. This film will make you hunt for those forgotten friends and old timers in the facebook you’ve spent your best and worst moments with and pick up where you’ve left out.
This reunion will help you come out as a changed person, to think not just about self but the other person and try and be more accommodative, that not all relationships will end happily, but the opportunity to come together again and reminisce might make it all worthwhile. Finally a reunion might even help you begin your life on a fresh note. Music is okay, cinematography could have been better. A nice screenplay, good dialogues sum up the cute story on friends and friendship. A good effort from Suman Pathuri.

Tere Bin Laden: Hilariously good

Rating: 3.5 out of 5*

Starring: Ali Zafar, Pradhuman Singh, Sugandha Garg and Piyush Mishra

Director: Abhishek Sharma

July 16 (Sampurn Wire): There are some films that are winners right from the time their very first promo is unleashed and Tere Bin Laden is one such film! Since the time many months back the hilarious promo of this Abhishek Sharma debut directorial venture came on, tremendous curiosity value for the film arose despite the fact that the film doesn’t carry any big face value. The film thankfully lives up to the promise and entertains making it a winner in all its departments.

The film narrates in a tongue-in-cheek manner a Pakistani reporter’s attempts to migrate to the US and chaos it all leads to. Ali Hassan (Ali Zafar) is an ambitious young news reporter from Pakistan Ali (Ali Zafar) who is extremely desperate to migrate to the US in pursuit of the American dream. His repeated attempts to immigrate are shot down as his visa is forever rejected. But when things couldn’t look worse he comes across Noora (Pradhuman Singh) who is an Osama bin laden look alike. Ali then hatches a scheme to produce a fake Osama video and sell it to news channels as a breakthrough scoop! Unfortunately this leads to serious implications as the White House also gets involved and dispatches an overzealous secret agent on Ali’s trail.

First timer Abhishek Sharma shows complete command as both a writer and director. Keeping the running time just around 100 minutes, he ensures maximum laugh out loud moments. His recreation of Pakistan deserves kudos. The script is the main hero of this Tere Bin Laden wasting no time in going into unnecessary deviations.

Pakistani singer Ali Zafar has been perfectly cast and shows remarkable comic talent. Pradhuman Singh is simply uproarious to watch. A great find. Sugandha Garg last seen in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is another talent to watch out for. Piyush Mishra and Rahul Singh are fun too. Barry John as the American agent is good.

The music is fun too and Jaideep Sahni written Ullu Da Patha stands out the most.

Tere Bin Laden proves when you have a strong content you don’t necessarily need big stars. It’s a definite watch if you want to laugh your guts out!

Red Alert – The War Within: A good attempt
Starring: Suniel Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Bhagyashree, Vinod Khanna, Ashish Vidyarthi, Gulshan Grover and Naseeruddin Shah (in Sp App)
Rating:
Director: Anant Narayan Mahadevan

July 9, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): With a hard hitting realistic film Red Alert – The War Within actor turned filmmaker Anant Narayan Mahedevan has finally found his calling after directing a good number of average movies distinctively belonging to a diverse genre. The film based on a true story manages to strike a chord with the manner Mahadevan has narrated the subject without taking sides and has been ably supported by his ensemble cast.

The film narrates the tale of Narsimha (Suniel Shetty) a farm laborer, who desperately needed money to fund the education of his children. But he ends up finding himself in the midst of Naxalites where his mission becomes a mere subset of a greater cause that the militant’s pursue. From being a mere cook to actually training in weapons to being involved in shootouts and kidnapping, Narsimha himself in the thick of life he had never bargained for. A confrontation with the group leader (Ashish Vidyarthi) however turns his life upside down which leads him on the run from both law and the militants. But then comes a crucial time for Narsimha to take one vital decision that can either make or break him. But the decision ends in creating a conflicting situation that has him torn between conscience and survival.

The film’s situations are straight out of newspaper headlines and Mahadevan has handled the subject maturely. He has given a treatment to the film like a thriller rather than resorting to a boring documentary style. Much credit also goes to writer Aruna Raje. However, the climax could have been better. The happy ending though might please audience but in reality the situations portrayed in the climax appear a bit implausible.

The film’s another big strength however are the performances. Suniel Shetty has delivered his career-best act. Bhagyashree playing his wife is good. Sameera Reddy is almost unrecognizable in her non-glam act and is impressive. Ayesha Dharkar and Seema Biswas barely get any scope to justify their talent. Ashish Vidyarthi is very good. Gulshan Grover is fair. Amongst the veterans, Vinod Khanna in his short act and Naseer in his one scene role are super impressive. Zakir Hussain and Makarand Deshpande leave an impact too.

The camerawork by K. Rajkumar and action by Allan Amin could have been better.

Red Alert is a must watch for serious cinema lovers.

Milenge Milenge: Boring
Starring: Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Aarti Chabbria, Satish Shah and Delnaz Paul
Rating:
Director: Satish Kaushik

Milenge Milenge is a poor rehash of John Cussack – Kate Beckinsale starrer romantic comedy Serendipity (2001) that was about destiny bringing two lovers back together. But perhaps makers Boney Kapoor and Satish Kaushik were not as lucky to quickly encash on its success as their copy took a good seven years to come on screen. In the meanwhile a small film starring TV actor Sarwar Ahuja and veteran actress Tabassum’s granddaughter Khushi titled Hum Phirr Milein Na Milein released and flopped last year carrying the same plotline.

Milenge Milenge narrates the tale of Priya (Kareena) and Immy (Shahid) who meet each other in Bangkok and fall in love. However when Priya (Kareena) gets to know that Immy (Shahid) used her diary to know what she liked so that he could impress her, she dumps him. Immy manages to convince her to give him one more chance. And Priya writes her name in a book and Immy’s name in a Rs. 50 note and gave it away to different people, adding that if they ever get back those two items it would mean destiny wants them to be together.

Milenge Milenge is not only badly written and looks like an amateurish attempt but is completely dated in its approach by Satish Kaushik. The way Kareena’s character is established in the opening credits is quite passé and the subsequent series of events completely bore you. The film is full of stereotyped characters and monotonous dialogues which would have not worked even back in 2005 had it been released then. Himesh Reshammiya’s music also does not click. The film is shot and edited very inconsistently as well.

If one expects at least the acting to be a good thing about the film then there is disappointment in this department too. Shahid carries a huge Shah Rukh Khan hangover and irritates while Kareena is just about passable. Aarti Chabbria hardly gets any scope. Rest all are plain average.

The film falls completely short on any expectations that you may have. Watch it only if you have the curiosity of checking out Shahid and Kareena together for probably the last time. Otherwise please stay miles away from Milenge Milenge.

Story

Set on the backdrop of Rajolu in East Godavari district, the honest and fearless inspector Narasimha (suriya) rules the roost. However, he is liked by everyone in the village and his family (radha ravi, yuvarani, vivek, sumithra etc) is respected by everyone. The story takes a turn with the arrival of Purushottam (prakashraj), a dreaded name in the city of Vizag. Due to a land dealing that falls in the Rajolu area, he is arrested and given conditional bail that he must sign at Rajolu every 15 days. Friction begins between Purushottam and Narasimha and using his influence, the villain gets Narasimha to city. In between this, there is Kavya (anushka) who falls for Narasimha and woos him. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Suriya has given a credible performance and he has amazing dance moves, daring stunts, perfect body language and physique as the upright cop, adrenaline pumping dialogue delivery and the fury in his eyes. He is equally soft in the romantic scenes. Overall, he was impressive. Telugu Movie Reviews

Anushka looks voluptuous and hot, her oomph factor is hard to resist in the songs and she looks equally sweet in the traditional outfits. She made her presence felt with her performance and glamour.

Prakashraj is a show stealer. Only he could match the caliber of someone like Suriya and though it was a usual role, he infused good life into it.

Vivek was hilarious, Radha Ravi was elegant, Nasser was natural, Vijay Kumar was neat, Aditya Menon was apt, Yuvarani was okay, Sumitra was standard, the others did their bit as required.

Final Analysis:

The film is a typical mass masala treat and the commercial film lovers will find it a treat. The pace is excellent and there is no idle time.

Dialogues were sensible and there is good energy. Script was straight and though there is not much content, it is the screenplay and the performances that engage the viewers.

One can see a different Devisri Prasad in this one. The songs, background score was different.

Cinematography was top notch, editing was crisp and rapid, costumes were excellent and art department was creative.

Despite the fact that it was a dubbed movie, the maker took enough caution not to miss out on logic and certain scenes that talk common sense and mathematics, especially during the firing scenes is praiseworthy. A lot of script work has gone through in the climax which shows good commitment levels. On the flip side, the film is too loud and quite racy which keeps your pulse rate high.

Also, there was a drag in the second half due to songs, fights and unwanted scenes. Overall, this is a typical formula film means for the B and C centers. Even families can also watch it if they relish action packed high energy stuff.

Story

Balu (Manoj Manchu) has only one mission in his life – to become a great playback singer like SP Balu. He challenges a landlord in his village and comes to Hyderabad to become a singer. Captain Rao (Mohan Babu) stays in the opposite house. He is an old-fashioned man who hates the lifestyle of new generation. Sravya (Tapsee) is an NRI girl who stays in her father’s friend Captain Rao’s house. She is in India to do documentary on traditional Telugu music. Balu acts as a local guide to her and in the process, they fall in love. Captain Rao doesn’t like them fall in love. The rest of the story is all about Captain Rao’s restrictions and how the lovers emerge unscathed.

Artists Performance:

Manoj Manchu: Manoj Manchu comes up with another rocking performance in this movie. His styling and dialogue delivery is more like of those characters we see in comic books and video games that are developing using comic books. His performance in the confrontation scene leading to interval is good. He matched the screen presense and comedy timing of Mohan Babu in the scenes involving both of them. Telugu Movie Reviews

Tapsee: K Raghavendra Rao gives Telugu film industry another commercial heroine in the form of Tapsee. She has good camera friendly looks and reminded me of Rambha in many ways. She is effervescent and bubbly. She is good at acting too. It is no wonder that she grabbed many projects before the release of her first movie. She is going to be a good glamorous heroine in Telugu. It is up to her to choose right projects to make herself a performing actress too.

Others: Mohan Babu plays the third most important character in the film. It is nice of Mohan Babu to allow others (including comedians) to have satires on him (especially ‘I appreciate you’ dialogue). He is comical most of the time and performed with extreme passion in intense scenes. Brahmanandam entertains though his comedy is of old-fashioned type. Ali is humorous as ‘naa name ranjith. Naa game encounter’. MS Narayana is extremely funny as the sidekick of Mohan Babu. Suman, Dharmavarapu, Apoorva, Sudha, Ahuti Prasad and Aishwarya are adequate. Tanikella Bharani is powerful in a small role.

Technical Departments:

Story – screenplay – direction: The basic story given by Bhupati Raja is simple. K Raghavendra Rao handled this simple story in a simplistic way by including adequate commercial elements so that it reaches everybody. Screenplay of the movie is adequate. K Raghavendra Rao proves that there is no retirement for creativity and age never becomes a disadvantage while dealing with romantic subjects. He has shown the heroine Tapsee in the most glamorous way. He also made sure that there is something in the film for A/B/C center audiences. There are a few old-fashioned scenes for the sake of commercial elements. But they are minimal and they don’t disturb the flow of the narration. There is trademark of K Raghavendra Rao in songs picturization of the movie.

Other departments: Music by MM Keeravani is good and background music is also handled well. I rate the 3rd song (shot in Kerala) as the best song in the movie. The last song (desamante Mattikadoi) is the life of the movie. All songs are picturized colourfully. Cinematography by S Gopal Reddy is very good. However, he should have shot stunt sequences in a better way. Dialogues by Rajasimha are good. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is smooth. Art direction by Raghu is neat. Production values by debutant producer Lakshmi Manchu are very good with rich visuals.

Final Analysis:

First half of the movie is nice. Tempo goes down in the second half a bit. The climax song makes it up for all. Plus points of the film are main leads (Manoj’s comedy and Tapsee’s glamour) and K Raghavendra Rao’s commercial elements coupled with attractive music/visuals. On the flip side, old-fashioned story might not be liked by urbane crowds. On a whole, Jhummandi Naadam is a film that has something for every kind of audience (A, B or C). It is a K Raghavendra Rao’s masala entertainer that has all ingredients do well at box office.

anner: Aarya Entertainment
Cast: Krishnudu, Subbaraju, Deepika, Benarji, Surya, Shiva Reddy, Uttej, Melkoi, Gundu Hanumantha Rao, Narsing Yadav, Malladi Raghava, Junaid, Sangeetha, Master Nagendra, Fish Venkat, CVB Sibramanyam and Ambati Srinivas
Direction: Sapan Pasuparthi
Production: Praveen Reddy Nalla & Nagesh Yada
Music: Phani Kalyan
Krishnudu is entering the league of heroes now. ‘Vinayakudu’ series made him a performer and now along with debutant director Sapan Pasumarthi, he has come out with ‘Pappu’. The movie is produced by NRIs - Praveen Reddy Nalla & Nagesh Yada who are film buffs wanting to make quality cinema.

As the title goes ‘Pappu’ with the tagline Mr. Intelligent, it gives you that ‘feel good movie’ feeling. And here it is, Sapan Pasumarthy has tried his best to get a motion picture out. Being his first movie, the director has made a movie from the audience’s point of view – a neat entertainer without vulgarity and violence. He has made sure the audiences have a healthy laugh.

Has he succeeded? This review will take a positive note and give the positive answer. He has done a fair job and has been successful in making the audience laugh plenty of times in ‘Pappu’.

The Gist of the Movie

‘Pappu’ the title role is played by Krishnudu. We know him, at least physically! He’s stout and besides the physical factor, the character in the movie, he is the not-so-lucky guy. Funny incidents in the movie show him as an unlucky guy whose activities are proven lucky to others but not to him. The heroine Deepika plays Radha, daughter of Pappu’s boss. Pappu loves her but can’t shed his inhibition and tell it to her.

Circumstances lead to the kidnapping of the heroine. You know our Telugu cinema police, they’re helpless, so the clever director introduces intelligent CID officer Ram played by villain in many movies but the gentleman in this movie, Subba Raju. Advice from a Godman that an unlucky guy should join the detective in finding the heroine , makes Krishnudu accompany the detective. How they find the heroine, the funny misadventures and the entertaining screenplay forms the rest of the movie!

Quality of Film Making

‘Pappu’ is an entertainer. It is a time pass. Watch this movie to entertain yourself rather than finding illogical movie flaws. It is fun in bits and parts. Director Sapan Pasumarthi along with his technicians including cinematographer Rajendra Kesani who’s done a decent job capturing nature with his lens; music director Phani Kalyan, from the school of A R Rahman composing quite a few decent numbers, etc have done a good quality movie.. This is not that under rated low budget movie, ‘Pappu’ passes the muster comfortably giving the audience satisfaction end of the day!

Plus Points

Director Sapan Pasumarthi has tried a formula that has worked. Highlight of the movie is the background scores of hit movies in the background reminding you of a formula tried in old movies yet it still is effective in making the audience giggle.

Krishnudu dancing and fighting? Firstly appreciation to the young man to dance boldly and even fight, thanks to Amma Rajasekhar and Ram-Lakshman respectively for making him to do what he’s not used to. Krishnudu’s improving by the day and his bubbly innocent looks are his USP. Subba Raju has also done a decent performance. He’s come out his shell of being a villain and his chemistry with Krishnudu in the movie is anything but great.

Other actors like Uttej, Shiva Reddy and Gundu Hanumanth Rao chip in with their regular does of contributions that rather looked clichéd. Comedy is the backdrop of this movie! Dialogues by the director himself makes him receive extra appreciation.

Minus Points

‘Pappu’ is made by a debutant let us not forget the fact. He has tried to make the audience laugh in every scene but doesn’t quite do it but tries to for a large extent. It is an entertainer but minor flaws exist primarily being the choice of the heroine, who doesn’t really suit for the character – a Telugu girl. Secondly, her dubbing doesn’t sync with her lip movement. Editing could have been better in the first half nevertheless the debutant director deserves praise.

IndiaGlitz Verdict

Bored of cars flying? Bombs? Care for a healthy laugh? Watch ‘Pappu’, the kids might have a better time than the adults, a few jokes might look amateur but what’s life all about, just to laugh it out! Go watch it!

I Hate Luv Storys: Fun Till It Lasts
Rating:
Starring: Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Sammir Dattani, Sameer Soni and Kavin Dave
Director: Punit Malhotra

July 2, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Boy hates mushy love stories, doesn’t believe in love and all those things that come along with it whereas the girl is a big believer in romance and is living her own perfect love story with a childhood pal. Boy meets this girl and don’t get along but eventually love strikes! First for the girl but the boy rejects it explaining that he only thought of her as a friend. Soon love strikes him too but by then it is too late. He tries to woo her back and ends up doing all those mushy things that he hated in the first place. Punit Malhotra’s debut directorial venture, I Hate Luv Storys works well when it tries to poke fun at these elements but eventually falls in the same clichéd trap when it comes to delivering as a film.

I Hate Luv Storys’ main lead character, J (Imran Khan) tries to poke fun of all the mush and romance ideas that generate from Bollywood. Ironically, working with Bollywood’s King of mush, filmmaker Veer Kapoor, he barely manages to keep a straight face about all that’s happening around him. A complete opposite of J, Simran (Sonam) joins Veer Kapoor’s production as a set designer. As expected clashes take place between the two but eventually they end up becoming good friends. Gradually she ends up falling for, Mr. Wrong at the risk of dumping her loyal perfect Mr. Right Raj (Sammir). J rebuffs her. Hurt, she tries to get over her fixation for J and decides to concentrate on her relationship with Raj. But by then J has fallen head over heels in love with Simran and wants her back. How he tries to use all the tricks from the clichéd Bollywood references and much more to woo Simran back, forms the rest of the film.

First timer, Punit delivers big when it comes to giving the film a fresh treatment in terms of narrative and style and laces it with some extremely laugh out loud one liners. But as a writer, he falls short of offering anything new when it comes to the script. Agreed, it tries to take a funny look at the romance seen through the typical eyes of Bollywood, by doing a parody of sorts on filmmakers. He includes his own producer Karan Johar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and even Aditya Chopra in it but one fails to understand why Punit doesn’t give a new perspective about the same in his own film given the resources he had in hand.

The jovial first half has its moments but the second half tends to drag, especially since you can predict well in advance how and where it is all heading. But, full marks to his actors including the periphery ones, who keep it rocking with their perfect acts. Vishal and Shekhar’s chart topping music also aids IHLS and lifts it above the average. The innovative production design works well with the theme of the film. Ayananka Bose continues to surprise with camerawork with each passing film. She has captured the New Zealand locales superbly.

Imran Khan, after a lackluster performances in Kidnap and Luck is back in top form and very much at ease playing a rom com lead. He adds more fun to his character with his body language and facial expressions. Sonam Kapoor is aptly cast as the dreamy lover girl and wows in her more contemporary city gal avatar unlike her first two films Saawariya and Delhi 6 which presented her in a more ethnic way. The chemistry between this fresh pairing is amazing. Kavin Dave as Imran’s office colleague is hilariously good. The graffiti on his Tees make you LOL as well. Sammir Dattani delivers his lines monotonously. Perhaps he was asked to appear as a boring boy friend. But he does it well. Sameer Soni is fun with his take on Karan Johar and so is Aamir Ali as the hot shot romantic star of the film he is shooting. Bruna Abdullah is smoking hot in her special appearance as Imran’s flirt interest.

IHLS is fun till it lasts but once you come out of the cinema hall you realize that it fails to make an impact as a romantic comedy thanks to the feeling of déjà vu. IHLS works as pure popcorn fun.

Story: The documentary explores the music and the motivations of India's first full blown rock band, Indian Ocean, through extensive interviews with the band members and people who have worked with them. It also features some of their most popular numbers which they sing during a live concert in Delhi.

Movie Review: For all those who saw and savoured This Is It, the salutation to Michael Jackson's magical music, here's a chance to tap your feet at high-adrenalin, homegrown notes. Jaideep Varma not only creates India's first rocumentary, he ends up painting a warm and intense close-up of a creative foursome that not only creates some fine music; it lives it too. For, if you have you have been an aficionado of Indian Ocean's brand of music, you will end up cheering their lifestyle too. Primarily because it encapsulates the entire journey of an artist -- from struggle to success -- and salutes a credo that celebrates creativity and nothing else. The most enlightening moment of the film lies in a confession, when a member tells you there are no leaders in the group and there are no lead artists. We are all basically good accompanying artists who end up great when we play together, says drummer boy Amit Kilam.

And herein lies the beauty of the film -- and the group -- as it captures the individual stories of the perfectly synchronised foursome, even as they jam together in the picturesque, plaster-peeling 100-year-old building in Karol Bagh that serves as their jam pad and their temple of creativity. The passion of Asheem Chakravorty, percussionist, the bohemianism and activism of Raghu Ram, vocalist, the frenzy of Susmit Sen, as he creates a whole new sound through his guitar and the sensitivity of Amit Kilam, the drummer who is essentially a guitarist at heart: the film paints powerful character sketches in bold strokes of what it means to be an artist in commercially art-unfriendly and competitive India. But more importantly, it gives you most of their hit numbers too -- Desert Rain, Kandisa, Bandeh, Jhini -- including an adivasi rendition of Maa Rewa, the theme song of the Narmada Bachao Andolan.

The film was made before the band lost one of its core members last year and naturally does not incorporate the loss and the restructuring, if any. It is however credited as a tribute to Asheem Chakravorty and suitably salutes his genius.

Scintillating. Go for it.
