Story

Noted MLA Narasimha Reddy (Kitty) has got a trusted aide in the form of Veerabhadriah (Rajendra Gupta) in Anandapuram area.

However, Narasimha’s relative Nagamani Reddy (Kota) is unable to take this for reasons of caste and losing his presence. He plants a seed of friction and in no time, Narasimha Reddy gets Veerabhadriah killed. This enrages Veerabhadriah’s elder son Shankar Ravi (Sushant) and he gets into a killing spree and operates from forests.

Veerabhadriah’s younger son Pratap Ravi (Vivek) who is away from all this gets to know of this and before he realizes, Shankar Ravi also gets killed. He vows revenge on his father and brother’s killers and in this process, Narasimha Reddy, Nagamani Reddy and others are brutally killed. Nagamani Reddy’s son Bukka Reddy (Abhimanyu) who is insane to the core is unable to take this and he becomes Pratap’s main enemy.

Meanwhile, the rise of Pratap as opposite force to Bukka Reddy is noticed by Shivaji Rao (Shatrughan) who sets a new party and he decides to lift Pratap to put an end to Bukka Reddy. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Vivek Oberoi is an apt choice, his eyes deliver the sufficient emotion of revenge and his body language is intense. He has done full justice to his role.

Abhimanyu Singh is a complete show stealer. His menacing looks and his cold blooded performance will give some spine chilling moments.

Shatrughan Sinha was contained and it must be said that traces of real life N T Rama Rao are quite prominent in his gestures and dialogue delivery.

Kota was perfect, Radhika was naturally appealing, Zarina was neat, Tanikella was impressive and he made his presence felt, Rajendra Gupta was adequate, Sushant was brief, Ashish Vidyarthi was alright, Subhalekha Sudhakar was standard, Subrat Dutta was good, the others did their bit as required and added value.

Highlights:
Symbolism shots with respect to showing a cycle in Shivaji Rao (Shatrugan Sinha)’s place (recalling TDP and NTR), usage of left had, addressing as ‘brother' are impressive.

Showing a dog barking after the death of Naga Mani Reddy (Kota) depicts ‘kukka chaavu'..That’s impressive.

Ram Moorthy (Tanikella) saying to Pratap Ravi ‘to shave beard as a politician should look clean at face although dirty at heart'

Bukka Reddy’s introduction scene

Disappointments:
RGV’s voice over is overflowing. It’s not a radio drama to explain everything with a voice over. Whatever RGV is saying in voice, is being conveyed visually! It disturbed the mood to some extent.

Pratap Ravi stays in forest as per the dialogue. But he stays in a dusty hill area that hardly looks like a forest. It may sound trivial, but when such observations linger in mind, some audience gets distracted from the mood.

Why Dabbunnoda song? The context is not convincing.

Challenges:
The subject chosen is quite hard hitting so one needs to have some background information before actually connecting to the film.

Facing criticism with respect to Shivai Rao’s (a replica of NTR) characterization and converting it into publicity element.

Facing criticism and questions with respect to ‘pedda sir' (implying YSR) and again converting it into a publicity element

Mood is suddenly dropping down at the conclusion point of the movie. Waiting till Part-2 to get completeness in feeling is a challenge for audience and it’s challenge for maker to sustain interest for 1 month till Part-2 release.

Final Analysis:

“Goodness or badness can never be anyone’s property. They are situational.
If a man is hunger free, he showers only goodness. But if any sort of hunger (be it lust, power craving or greed or vengeance) hits him, he spells badness'.

Rakta Charitra is a fiction based on historical facts.
It’s rather powerful to say that it’s a true depiction of human emotions.
It’s a tour to extreme human beings.

Ramayan or Mahabharat or any chronicled history in dramatic form depicts the extremities of emotions in every character. For example if Karna is known for generosity, its shown with eccentricity of chopping off his own armored skin to offer for a beggar. If Bheeshma is known for sacrifice, its shown in extreme point of choosing life time celibacy to keep himself and his legacy far from kingship. Any drama holds grip only when the characterizations are strong. This fact was known for dramatists right from Veda Vyasa and Valmiki. Similar path is now chosen by Ram Gopal Varma is depicting a historical fact in dramatic form. Telugu Movie Reviews

He has shown Bukka Reddy as a determined rapist (!) and dedicated murderer (!).The incidents canned around this characterization are extreme in imagination. Pratap Ravi is shown as a bad guy, but for a true reason (since he is chosen to be the hero of the plot).

Ram Gopal Varma is a master of movie making and an expert storyteller. This is seen here yet again. As such, the storyline can be understood in few words and there is nothing unpredictable about it but then it is the way Ramu takes off with each scene and how he gets the viewer into the film which counts.

His screenplay techniques and shot compositions are one of those dexterities he possesses. Perhaps a layman might find the visual appeal to be dim but then there are few flashes of his brilliance which are seen on and off. The focus was more on the emotion of the protagonist and the villain so that is a challenge to handle for more than two hours.

On the other hand, it is not a typical Varma characterization where most of the actors give hard expressions, talk less and convey more. Here the characters speak sufficient and sometimes little verbose!! But still there is a rhythm in their performance and it connects to the regular audience.

On a whole it’s a movie about the raise of a leader.

Rakta Charitra - 1 Hindi Movie Review:
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Abhimanyu Singh, Shatrughan Sinha

From its bloodbath beginning, Ram Gopal Varma very intensely asserts that brutality, gore, violence are essential characteristics of Rakta Charitra. The story in itself is nothing more than a regular revenge-drama but what makes you connect compellingly with the chronicle is the fact that it’s a biographical adaptation of a real-life character who was once the most dreaded name in South India.

So Paritala Ravi becomes Pratap Ravi (Vivek Oberoi) in RGV’s version of the rebel-turned-politician’s life history. Pratap is an ordinary student who goes against the law and turns an outcast to avenge the assassination of his father and brother by the hands of the upper caste ruling politicos. The rivalry extends between Pratap and the politician’s heir Buka Reddy (Abhimanyu Singh). Pratap comes into power as he joins politics under the party of filmstar-turned-minister Shivaji (Shatrughan Sinha). As he terminates all his enemies, he gains more and more command over the city.

Rather than a disclaimer, the film starts with declaration of being based on a true story. Though the names are faintly amended, the characterizations are clearly derived from real life entities significant in Paritala’s life. Writer Prashant Pandey puts together important events in Paritala’s life, as the first installment of Rakta Charitra establishes the rise of his character. Of course the narrative works only one-dimensionally towards glorifying him as a hero, never showing him in any other perspective. Also elements of fiction (like his love story) are altered in the account to add to the drama and entertainment.

Ram Gopal Varma sticks to his brooding Sarkar style of shot-takings that never goes wrong in an intense drama like this. So Amol Rathod’s cinematography comprises of sepia tones, extreme close-ups shots, unusual angles and erratic movements which at times even do to complete 360. Jayesh Dhakkan’s sound design is hard-hitting and Nipun Gupta’s editing is sharp. Javed Eijaz choreographs raw action sequences which are realistically gruesome with blood essentially written all over it. Even the title song interspersed with Sanskrit shlokas and chants is reminiscent of Sarkar theme track and succeeds in having a similar effect.

Despite being a political drama, Ramu never delves deep into the intricacies of the affairs of the state and keeps the story straightforward for easy understanding. At instances, killings in the film come as unexpected as death would come in real life. The scene where Pratap murders the minister (Kota Srinivasa Rao) in the first half comes so unexpectedly that it takes time to sink into your senses. Evidently it brings back memories of Bhiku Mhatre’s termination from RGV’s Satya (1998). Also in Abhimanyu Singh’s Buka Reddy, Ramu gives you a venomous villain who expresses lust in his eyes and cruelty in his actions, like never seen before.

The pace is fast and doesn’t give you time to ponder over proceedings. Amidst this, you certainly do not appreciate an item number by Sukhwinder Singh. The movie starts with a voiceover and while you assume it would end after the prologue, it continues throughout giving the film a docu-drama feel. Moreover the aged and accented narration irritates after a while. Also the narrative introduces characters of an intelligence officer (Sudeep) and a commissioner (Darshan Zariwala) that never come back in the plot after their one-scene mention. Perhaps Ramu seems to have planted these characters in the prequel to be put into better use in the following episode of Rakta Charitra.

Ram Gopal Varma brings back the Vivek Oberoi that we lost after Company. The actor is in terrific form and pulls off his role very confidently. The angst and attitude that he brings to his character is amazing. Abhimanyu Singh is superlative as the hotheaded and eccentric opponent. Shatrughan Sinha (sans his moustache) is presented like never before. He is authoritative and has immense screen presence. Radhika Apte as Ravi’s love interest is restrained. Ashwini Kalsekar, Zarina Wahab, Kota Srinivasa Rao and Anupam Shyam lend good support.

The film ends rather abruptly as Ramu promises more action in the sequel, showing glimpses of what’s in store, pretty much like a television episode culminates. The viewer’s disappointment for a definite climax is substituted with the anticipation emerging from the introduction of a new opponent to Vivek Oberoi in the form of Suriya. With that Ram Gopal Varma very compellingly pulls off India’s first film conceived in two chapters from its commencement. Finally RGV has better sequels to offer over Phoonk and Agyaat. Looking forward!

Till then relish Rakta Charitra. This is a ‘bloody’ good film.

Hiss Hindi Movie 2010 Review:
Hiss Hindi Movie Review ;Speaking of gore, another movie that delivers exactly that for you, but an even more disgusting and morbid is Hisss Mallika Sherawat starrer. Directed by Jeniifer Lynch, the film has done a lot of news when the actress was seen at various film festival pythons wrapped around her. What you should expect from this movie, perhaps the feeling of not wanting to touch food again ever in your life, induce vomiting as this film will have its effect on you for a very long time.
Now, if the director’s intention was to show a completely naked and completely naked I say yes, Mallika Sherawat flauting her sexy body, then a commercial or even a photoshoot would have sufficed. But here we have an entire movie happens for two hours seeing gruesome sequences where Naagin kills his victims in cold blood, die parts of their bodies and left for us to watch several times. She is seeking revenge and regain his lover and kill anyone who comes his way. But that’s not all. Naagin This is also a social activist and feminist who is also thoroughly kill all and any man who attempts to commit any kind of crime on a woman.
Hisss with all its quirks, has about as far off a dirty stick in the mud. Despite its “wave” of characters covering a crazy old fart delirium who wants to cure his cancer with naagmani Mallika Sherawat who is the most sexily split peices of fabric when it is all that is, a cop and lost her sometimes cornea but sometimes cute wife and mother-in-law, Hisss has little to offer.

Review
Story

Shankar Goud (Srihari) is a popular don in old city. He dotes on his lovable sister Pooja (Genelia). Srinivasa Rao alias Babloo (Vishnu) is a wayward youngster. He joins as an employee in Shankar Goud’s accounts department. There he gets to know Pooja and the inevitable happens. The rest of the story is all about how Babloo plays some mind games to win Shankar Goud’s confidence and marry Pooja.

Artists Performance

Vishnu: Vishnu’s main strength is his spontaneity and the director exploited it to the full extent in this film. Vishnu is home playing the role of Babloo. Vishnu’s always took care of fights in his earlier films and ignored the main content. But in this film he seemed to have stuck with the script. In one certain scene he even imitates Mohan Babu in a prank call given to Srihari.

Genelia: Watching Genelia on the big screen gives us a lot of relief as we are fed up with so many new heroines coming in and going out of the industry without leaving any impact. Genelia is exceptionally good and she contributes a lot to the script with peppy portrayal of the character.

Others: Srihari is very good. His role in this film reminds us of the role he played in Mahanandi. He adds value to the film with his neat work. Brahmanandam and Sunil never entertained the crowds in such a way in recent times. Brahmanandam is superb. The way he refers to Vishnu as ‘Rao garu’ and then sums up by saying 'Nannu Involve cheyyakandi' is cool. Sunil is excellent. The situational comedy on Jaya Prakash Reddy is also good. Supreet (Katraj of Chatrapati) is competent as villain. Shafi is pretty cool as assassin.

Technical Departments:

Story - Screenplay - direction: Story of the film is simple and certain part of it reminds us of Mahanandi (don-heroine-hero relationship) and Ranam (mind game). What makes this simple story into enjoyable fare is the screenplay. Screenplay of this film is very good. Seenu Vytla’s forte has always been his comedy timing and he made sure that he filled the entire film with entertainment. He has the uncanny ability of creating humor out of nothing and runs it successfully for minutes together. He arranged the content of romance, comedy, action and suspense in such a way that they complement each other. The way hero traces the heroine’s place in the climax of the film is pretty intelligent. On the other hand, he made the role of Srihari passive throughout the film which made the movie lose out on action drama aspect

Other departments: Music by Chakri is alright. But it is under promoted. Hence many people would not have heard the music before coming to the film. Dialogues by Kona Venkat are very good. There are neat one liners (Brahmanandam to Sunil: Mahesh Babu milk boy laga vuntadu. Nuvvu milk iche dooda laga vunnav.) and philosophical dialogues (chaavu ante santhi). Prasad Murella’s cinematography is fine. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is good. Fights are adequate.

Analysis: First half of the film is very entertaining. Second half is good too. The best part of the film is screenplay. Vishnu is likely to get a commercial break with this flick. Genelia is a plus. The comedy by Brahmanandam and Sunil is spread wisely throughout the film. The major minus of the film is that the Srihari’s character is made dumb throughout the film for screenplay convenience. Hence the title ‘Dhee’ will not be appropriate as it becomes one-sided match. On a whole, Dhee is an entertaining film and is the only film I liked in this year’s Telugu releases so far. Hence, I have no second thoughts about recommending it to you..

Aakrosh Hindi Online Movie Review:

Ajay Devgn said in a recent interview that Priyadarshan should stop making comedies. Well, looking at Priyadarshan’s recent comedies (KHATTA MEETHA, DE DANA DAN) and now that he’s made AAKROSH, we can’t agree more with Ajay.
Call it coincidence but 2010 has seen hordes of films based in the interiors of India. After ISHQIYA, PEEPLI [LIVE], ANTARDWAND and DABANGG, AAKROSH is yet another film set in small town India. It’s a complex but compelling narrative set around the issue of honour killings. Director Priyadarshan handles the subject proficiently, without compromising on the entertainment quotient. There’s never a dull moment and the entire narrative keeps one riveted. Take off your eyes and there are chances you’ll be discombobulated.
Three friends from Delhi go missing in a small village – Jhanjhar, in Bihar. It’s three months and there is no clue about their disappearance. The media and students movement demand action from the authorities. It’s then that the government orders a CBI enquiry with officers Sidhant Chaturvedi (Akshaye Khanna) and Pratap Kumar (Ajay Devgn) to solve the case. They find it difficult to solve the case as the local police and other authorities are a part of Shool Sena, which is responsible for illicit activities. Sidhant and Pratap also face Ajatshatru Singh (Paresh Rawal), a ruthless police officer who misuses his power. Not only that even the locals don’t support the investigation. It’s with the help of Roshni, (Amita Pathak) who’s the daughter of a rich and powerful villager, and Getta (Bipasha Basu), who’s Aiatshatru’s wife and Pratap’s former love, that the investigation moves ahead. A bewildering turn of events ensues.
Priyadarshan takes his time to build the story in the first half, which is comparatively slow paced. Once that is done, you find yourself gripped. The inexorable and brooding story-telling pattern is replete with twists. The issue of honour killings is used as a backdrop, in this high octane action thriller. Mind you, the action does get gory.
Moving on, great attention is paid to details. The placards by the local villagers have ‘We want justis’ written on them to look real. Even the milieu is perfect making you feel a part of the proceedings.
Some poignant scenes like the way the judge passes a hurried judgment as he feels claustrophobic, make you cringe. The scene in which Ajatshatru Singh listens to cricket commentary while Sachin Tendulkar is batting in his 90s deserves special mention.
Arun Kumar’s editing is decent but the first half could have been pruned for a much better impact. The couple of songs are a deterrent. Tirru’s choreography is appealing, with some brilliant shots. Dialogues by Aditya Dhar are impactful. There’s nothing great about Pritam’s music.
Ajay Devgn gives a superb performance. He has an inimitable panache, which is amazing. There’s something between him and trains. After ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, there’s yet another train sequence featuring him in AAKROSH. While the former was deftly done, the later appears farcical. Akshaye Khanna is impressive. After DEEWANGEE, the chemistry between Ajay and Akshaye clicks even in AAKROSH. Paresh Rawal is outstanding. He’s so good in his bad avatar that you are full of disdain each time he appears on screen. Amita Pathak is good. Bipasha Basu is miscast. It’s difficult to imagine her as a tormented wife. Her two phases have a very stark contrast. Sameera Reddy is passable in the item number.
AAKROSH is a spellbinding action thriller. After watching it you’ll feel exhausted, but in a good way.

Benny And Babloo 2010 Hindi Movie Review:
Movie Review : Benny And Babloo
Rating : 2.75/5
Banner : Chamunda Films
Cast : Kay Kay Menon, Rajpal Yadav, Riya Sen, Shweta Tiwari, Rukhsar, Natassha, Richa Chadda, Maushumi Udeshi, Hiten Paintal, Aasif Sheikh, Anangsha Biswas, Kiran Janjani, Kishori Shahane and Others
Music : Amjad Nadeem
Producer: Umesh Chouhan
Director: Yunus Sajawal
Released Date: October 02, 2010
Story:
A reflecting tale, the story is about two friends Benny (kay kay) and Babloo (rajpal) who come to the city of dreams Mumbai. Both are very good at heart and soon, Benny becomes a bell boy in a five star hotel while Babloo becomes a waiter at the ladies bar. Due to this, Benny often feels that his profile is quite better and good quality than Babloo's. As expected, he tends to ridicule Babloo as well. However, as fate would have it, Benny soon realizes that beneath the sheen of the five star, there are much more dark facts that he can handle. On the other hand, working in the shady place, Babloo realizes the humane side of the people and their attachments. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has come up with a thought provoking storyline and though the presentation was good, the narrative could have been better. The dialogues were sensible, the script was average and the screenplay was not upto the mark. Background score and songs were failure but the cinematography was the saving grace. Editing was just okay. Costumes were apt and the art department was realistic. Kay Kay Menon comes up with yet another fabulous act while Rajpal was his regular best. Riya looks ravishing, Shweta was sizzling hot, Rukhsar was neat, Natassha was natural, Richa was ripe, Maushumi was sensuous. The others didn't have much to offer.
Conclusion:
Overall, the film has an interesting take on life but then it could have been effective if the scenes were strong and the impact was created better. While the first half goes about with the lighter elements like the comedy and drama, it is the second half which gives an insight on few realities but with a subtle humor. The attempt of the maker must be appreciated and giving it multiple layers and characters spoiled the fun. He should have stuck to the point. Overall, a decent effort to entertain...

Bharatstudent verdict: Good but could have been better

Knock Out Hindi Movie Review
In contemporary cellular era when PCOs have almost become dormant, this film literally ‘showcases’ a fancy phone booth at central crossroads with swanky glass exteriors, newspaper decked interiors and (believe-it-or-not) a bulletproof bottom pane. Naturally the makers want to give an appealing appearance to the setting, since almost the entire film is stationed in and around the phone booth (of course, pun intended). Only if they had put as much effort in adding more appeal to the narrative, Knock Out would have been a watchable fare.

A man (Irrfan Khan) enters this phone booth to make forbidden calls and avoid getting traced. Supposedly an investment banker, he has an entire bank worth millions stuffed in his car parked outside the booth. Just when he is about to leave the booth, the phone rings and he takes the call. On the other end is an anonymous caller (Sanjay Dutt) who is keeping a close eye on the banker and holds him as hostage inside the phone booth at concealed gunpoint from the opposite edifice.

Soon police cover the area and a media circus follows. The media identifies the hostage as some Tony though Sanjay Dutt keeps repeatedly referring him by his alias ‘Bachu’ to an extent that you tend to assume that it symbolizes the ‘childish’ conduct of this cinema. Supplementary characters are stuffed in the form of a high-profile politician (Gulshan Grover) who asserts in his introductory dialogue that he doesn’t trust any human, though ironically he has a sidekick merely to read and remember the password of his Swiss Bank accounts. Then there is director-turned-actor Apoorva Lakhia who tries too hard to look cool as a cold-blooded encounter specialist but comes across as the best deadpan face since the advent of Himesh Reshammiya.

While the body of Knock Out is evidently derived from Colin Farrell’s Hollywood flick Phone Booth (2002), the soul of the film is derivative of our homeland Hindi film A Wednesday (2008). Sanjay Dutt’s characterization of a nameless individual who takes the city under siege using modern gadgetry is a clear parallel to Naseeruddin Shah’s character from A Wednesday . Other analogies include how he deceives the cops of his whereabouts and conceals his real identity throughout. Also Kangana Ranaut’s news reporter character comes from the same film though Deepal Shaw was certainly more effective in her role. Unfortunately Knock Out doesn’t even come halfway as close to the spirit of A Wednesday . The patriotism that Dutt tries to infuse through his demonstrative discourse appears absurd, artificial and accounts to emotional attyachar .

One could have overlooked the inspirations and improbabilities had Mani Shankar’s hold on the thriller been gripping. Sadly the director fails to bind the audience with a taut narrative. And this despite the fact that the flow remains uninterrupted by any song, dance or comedy tracks. With almost the entire film stationed around the phone booth and the events unfolding in real time, the storytelling could have been focused. Rather it becomes one-dimensional and fails to generate the necessary tension between the lead characters though it had immense scope for it. The proceedings appear repetitive and senselessly stretched. With its single-setting, the film largely relies on its wordplay but Shiraz Ahmed’s dialogues are uninspiring and mediocre.

The mood suddenly switches to an emotional melodrama in the second half. Soon after Irrfan Khan does a mock striptease, he makes an emotional confession on national television about his philandering ways. Then there’s a lecture on desh bhakti which gets too preachy. The viewer remains unmoved all through. Allan Amin’s dhishoom dhishoom action sequences in the climax lack the punch.

The performances will simply knock you out. Irrfan Khan’s act is as twisted as his hairstyle. He screams, shouts, dances, hams and does everything other than acting. Kangana Ranaut is a perfect miscast. As a news reporter, she staggers and struggles with a severe accent problem. Apoorva Lakhia is unintentionally funny. Sanjay Dutt is the only saving grace and tries hard to salvage this phony film.

Knock Out only beats around the booth and will leave you conked out. Enter at your own peril.

Brindavanam Telugu Movie Review:
Dil Raju had done the movie Munna with Vamsi Paidipalli, but it was a disaster. However, the producer gave him one more chance to direct. This time, the director has worked very hard on the script and screenplay and made it as a wholesome family entertainer. The entire technical team has worked in tandem and strengthened Vamsi’s hands to bring out a clean entertainer.

Buzz up!

NTR, as usual, has given a wonderful performance in Brindavanam. He has maintained good comedy timing and has done the action scenes with equal ease. Vamsi has etched the character by mixing the family image with action scenes to please the mass audiences thereby maintaining the action-hero image. Kajal is sweet in half-sarees as a village girl. Most of the film revolves around Kajal. Samantha, who appears an urban girl, has done justice to her role and she is also quite glamorous and appealing. The characters of Prakash Raj and Srihari are of equal status and they have lived up to the expectations. Kota Srinivasa Rao is okay in his role as grandfather. Ahuti Prasad’s character is a little lower to his calibre and Raghubabu is okay. Mukesh Rushi and Pragati are adequate. Tanikella Bharani was wasted as he played the role with negative shades. Ajay’s role just comes and goes and plays some role in the climax.

TECHNICAL:
Dialogues by Koratala Siva are good and dotted with comedy and punch. He has maintained the tempo while penning dialogues with sentiment. Though the basic story is by the director Vamsi Paidipalli, the dialogues have filled life in it. Music by Thaman is soothing and full of melody and rhythm. Choreography of all songs is good to watch. Cinematography by Chota K Naidu is apt and he has perfectly captured the rural beauty. The camera work in action scenes is also good. Action scenes by Ram-Lakshman, though not so stylish, could enthral the mass audiences. Though the story has the shades of old films. Vamsi has scripted a tight screenplay and he has narrated every scene with precision.

REMARKS:
You can watch the film with a family because of the entertainment values. Dil Raju is once again back on track. Vamsi Paidipalli has brought a smile on his face with his wholesome entertainer. The most interesting point is that the film starts with the song ‘Brinadaavanamadi…’ in colour and it is quite interesting to watch.

Cast: Junior NTR, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Prakashraj, Srihari, Ajay, Venumadhav, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Tanikella Bharani, Ahuti Prasad, Raghubabu, Mukhesh Rushi, Sana, Pragati, Sitara, Surekhavani and others.

Robo Telugu Movie Review:
Robo Telugu Movie Review | Robot Film Public Talk | Robo Review
When was the last time, you watched a movie and came out of a theatre and then continued to talk about that movie for ages to come? If you have an answer, you have another opportunity and if you don’t, you have your first ‘experience’ here!

Director Shankar, director extraordinaire comes with an Ento-sci-fi-thriller (Entertaining science fiction) ride and that’s ‘Robo’ produced by Sun Pictures’ Kalanidhi Maran! His trump card is Superstar Rajnikanth with four Aces being Aishwara Rai Bachchan as the heroine, AR Rahman for his expertise best known, Rathnavelu for cinematography and one whole Ace for his team that developed the special effects!

If you are that die hard fan of Rajnikanth, you wouldn’t need a review but you’d still want that loads of lines praising heaps on the Superstar! But here, you’ll regret one thing – the invention of the dictionary! You won’t really find one word to describe the true charisma and the on-screen persona of Rajnikanth, the undisputed Superstar of Tamil, oops Indian cinema!

Man, he is just class, when it comes to style and performance! Let’s dip in to the review in detail, don’t worry, there will be no spoilers!

The Gist of the Story

Rajnikanth is a scientist, Vaseegaran who develops his brainchild, a robot. Names it ‘Chitty’ and teaches every single thing that this universe can hold. ‘Chitty’ is programmed to learn and know everything except for human emotions and when that is taught, how would you expect a machine to react? Watch ‘Robo’ to know how!

Shankar, the captain!

‘Robo’ was apparently Shankar’s vision which he envisaged 10 years back! So imagine the idea that rose almost a decade ago! Yes he has been inspired by Hollywood, the land of science fiction, but executing that in India with the ‘Superstar’ flavour is not an easy task. Shankar’s knowledge on science and technology seems to be immense and he has conveyed his ideas to both rural and urban people with ease, thanks to simple, straightforward dialogues with due credit to Late Sujatha and young Karky. Shankar has adopted an uncomplicated screenplay that is enriched with entertaining elements that will make you realise how those three hours just flew!

Dialogues

The Superstar’s fan following ranges from the villages to international cities and this being a movie talking about technology, one would expect totally technical jargon in place. But that’s only a myth, because the dialogues in ‘Robo’ are simple and convey the message quite crisply making sure all the sections of the audience understand every aspect of technology and science. Now did that sound serious? The movie is neatly infused with comedy dialogues that will make you giggle and when rendered by Rajni himself, you’ll just scream laughing!

Visual Effects and Editing

The teasers and trailers stimulated the curiosity thanks to the splendid visual effects by international technicians. Examples of the dynamic effects are a plenty to talk about in the movie but sample this – a robot with unimaginable powers confronts goons with his electromagnetic property and attracts their weapons, and voila, you get to see, a spectacular scene that probably idolizes Goddess Kali! You’ll have to watch it to understand and realise, it is verbally impossible to describe that scene and many other visual effects! Editing by Antony is crisp. Had the length been a little longer, the party would have been a little annoying!

Stunts

Not just for visual effects, Shankar has also used the services of international expertise for the stunts in his movie. Yuen Woo Ping, who worked on ‘The Matrix’, etc, has designed stunt scenes that will make your jaws drop! Our very own Peter Heines has also done his part. A sample to tease your curiosity – an intense car chasing scene with our Superstar making a ‘donut’ in his Mercedes Convertible! Exhilarating!

Cinematography

Rathnavel aka Randy, seems to have been born with a golden camera! He has produced visuals fabulously with all the songs being shot with right colour temperature and lighting. You won’t miss a sight when ‘Neelo Valapu’ and ‘Kilimanjaro’ are on screen; they simply transport you to the scenic locations!

Music

AR Rahman, the Mozart of Madras, we’ve seen the response for the music! But on screen, ‘Neelo Valapu’ and ‘Kilimanjaro’, not to forget ‘Harima’, they take you by storm. The background score’s decent and tries to receive your attention effectively!

The Cast

Your eyes are predominantly set on the Superstar but pave way for the other leads. We’ll come to the beautiful Aishwarya in a little while but before that it is going to be the gracious Danny Denzongpa, the wily villain of the movie. He is old but he is got grace and is a refreshing change from the usual villains. He adds a lot of freshness to the script, a brilliant choice of casting.

The next, comedians Karunaas and Santhanam, though they don’t quite have lengthy screen presence, they still manage to receive appreciation for their comic timing. Santhanam will be a proud man to have shared screen with the superstar.

Aishwarya Rai – The Miss World, is amazing and truly an epitome of beauty! She forms an important part of the script and hence you’ll spot her throughout the movie, perhaps for the first time a heroine is receiving considerable importance in a superstar’s movie! The marvellous costumes add to her allure and she’s just majestic in few scenes!

Rajnikanth aka Superstar

Saving the best (or the ultimate) for the last, Rajnikanth is one man who will not cease to amaze you! If your 6 or 60, you will be in awe of the man! In a movie which shows signs of visual effects riding in the driver’s seat, the Superstar dominates every bit to walk away with appreciation! No favouritism here, you just can’t stop talking about him, once you come out! As the scientist Vasi, he plays his part uncharacteristically Rajni with out Punch dialogues or fights but as ‘Chitty – the Robot’ you are bound to follow or even turn an addict!

Sample this – as a gentle Robo he is precise in acting and when it comes to the evil side, the incredible Rajni has made sure he doesn’t waste his opportunity! His evil laugh, his characteristic slick walk, that body language and the dialogue delivery in ‘Robo’ remind you of the golden Rajni time! Look out for the amazing dance moves by the superstar, given his age; a few moves are stunning, credits to the choreographers!

IndiaGlitz Verdict

The festival of lights, ‘Deepavali’ is round the corner and with the release of ‘Robo’, the fireworks have already started! Quoting the Superstar himself, ‘Robo’ for the Indian audience all around the world is an ‘experience’! Don’t miss it!

Crook Hindi Movie Review

Genre: Drama
Director: Mohit Suri
Producer: Mahesh Bhatt
Banner: Vishesh Films
Music Director: Pritam Chakravarthy
Star Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Neha Sharma, Arjan Bajwa
Release Date: October8, 2010

With a fresh subject in hand, ‘Crook’ scores a round of applause, thanks to the much-highlighted headlines of our desi-Indians being discriminated in Australia. Yes, the bright and fiery headings take the front-foot in this hooky-crooky movie. Mohit Suri makes sure that his audience does not go back home disappointed. He has made worthy efforts to emphasis both the sides, we mean our Indians and the phirangi Australians, equally, blaming both the cultures for this racial slur. The movie is plotted on the streets of Melbourne where Jai lands with a new identity, Suraj Bhardwaj. The role of our very-own serial kisser, aka Emraan Hashmi as Jai has nothing new to offer, as he has already essayed the same character in the much-forgotten ‘Jannat’ as a bookie. ‘Crook’ sees him portraying a cabbie-man making all possible efforts under the sky, to make it big in a short period, only to be cooked up between the two communities.

With the belief that ‘it’s good to be bad’, which forms the tagline of the movie, Suraj does not leave any stone unturned to earn scores of money. But little does he know that the buzzing underground war between Indian and Aussie gangs will soon drag him into their issue. He meets his lady love Suhani (Neha Sharma), a student activist and sister of the hot-headed Samarth (Arjan Bajwa), who are trying to protect their culture from the brutal onslaught. But, as we always say that our desi films are incomplete without that mirch masala and nimbu ka tadka, so does this flick, which showcases different colors and flavors throughout as you munch your popcorns. ‘Crook’ promises lots of dishum-dishum, steamy romantic scenes, decent Australian setup, and energetic & peppy music!

The first half is a drag, wherein we have Emraan Hashmi romanticizing Indian student Neha Sharma, aka the Australian night club dancer. The movie picks up in the second half and keeps you pepped up, with you guessing the next consequences, similar to Mohit Suri’s previous ‘Jannat’ and ‘Kalyug’. Hats off to director who justifies India and Australia invariantly, bringing out the heated arguments of racism faced by Indians! Pritam delivers some good catchy numbers, while the cinematography deserves a thumbs-up. Watch this movie, at least once, only for Mohit Suri as he delivers freshness and spark right from the core. And of course, if you wanna see how Jai transforms into a bad-turned-good guy and learn some new ways of impressing your girlfriend!

Crook Hindi Movie Pre-release Review
‘Kalyug’ touched the sensibilities of the urban junta with its brutality and blatant honesty on a subject that can be best described as a taboo. Mohit Suri of ‘Kalyug’ fame hopes to give the audience some food for thought with his new venture ‘Crook’. Starring Bhatt’s poster boy Emraan Hashmi and debutante Neha Sharma, ‘Crook - It’s Good to be Bad’, is a man’s battles against racism in Australia. The movie also stars Arjan Bajwa of ‘Fashion’ fame. The movie is being produced by Vishesh Films; a combined venture by Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt. The music of the film has been given by Pritam. The movie is scheduled for a release on October 10, 2010

‘Crook’ deals with the moral dilemma we all experience at some point in our lives, when we are at crossroads between good and bad. “It is the choices we make that define who we are” - this eternal truth is hard to grasp and Mohit Suri hits the nail on the coffin with a crudeness that jolts you out of your trance. The movie is about Jai (Emraan Hashmi) who has a knack for getting into trouble. Hounded by a personal tragedy, Jai has his moral lessons all wrong and believes that “it is good to be bad”, which is also the tag line of the film. The movie also depicts a helpless step father, Joseph, who tries in vain to get Jai on track. When things turn for the worse with Jai, Joseph sends him away to Australia with a new identity, Suraj Bharadwaj. In Australia, Jai meets Suhani (Neha Sharma), who hails from a conservative punjabi household. It is in her bitter brother Samarth ( Arjan Bajwa) that Jai sees the first victim of racism.

In not less than a few days, Jai finds himself amidst racial wars. However, he is unable to approach the authorities, as his credentials too are tainted. It is at this point, when Jai is faced with a decision that would alter the course of his life. The movie also includes an Australian love interest, Nicole and her brother, Russel, who is responsible for all the chaos. The inspiration of the movie is attributed to the curry killings in Australia, which were responsible for the deaths of many Indian students in Australia. ‘Crook’ is about the demon in all of us, which we all always keep at bay. However, when suppressed too long, it shows its ugly face in morbidly inhuman ways, racism being one such cruelty. Does hitting hot iron on iron the best solution to deal with this problem? Or is the solution too much of an illusion? For answer to life’s cruelties, watch ‘Crook’ at the theatres near you.

Robot Hindi Movie Review

Genre: Action
Director: S. Shankar
Producer: Kalanithi Maran
Distributor: Sun Pictures
Music Director: A. R. Rahman
Lyricist: Swanand Kirkire
Star Cast: Rajnikant, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Danny Denzongpa, Karunas, Santhanam, Kalabhavan Mani
Release Date: October 1, 2010

What happens when the dazzling diva of Bollywood crosses roads with the demi God of Tollywood—‘Robot’ is the answer! The most expensive movie of the millennium in Bollywood, ‘Robot’ has all the ingredients of creating hysteria amongst the movie buffs. Which is why, we strongly recommend the movie for both the fans and non-fans of Rajni saar. A total paisa vasool, the prodigious imagination of writer-director, Shankar rightly reflect as to why Rajni is almost worshipped in some parts of India. While there is no looking adrift from the sheer charisma of Rajni on screen, Aishwariya too sweeps you off your feet with her bold and powerful acting prowess. However, word of caution - please keep your logics and explanations outside the theatre. Remember, when you start looking for sense is when you would feel all disconcerted and bored! So, it’s okay to feel frenzy and crazy with all the craziness around!

Talking about the premises of the movie, we have two Rajnis’ (as if one was not enough) in the film. While there is a scientist Vaseegaran, who’s researching and building a complex robotic machine, the other is robot Chitti (also Rajini) a unique character who has the traits of a spiderman, master-chef, and an ace-choreographer. We then have the bad daddy played by Danny, who is the senior of Vaseegaran. Aishwarya Rai plays Sana, a cute girl, who somehow or the other always manages to trap herself into a mess, only to get saved by the scientist and machine each time. Soon, the machine falls in love with Sana (weird you might feel, but don’t you remember, it’s a Rajni film after all). However, the love is not reciprocated, as Sana thinks of Chitti (the robot) as just a toy-friend and not a boyfriend. All hell break loose when Chitti realizes this and we have a perfect over-the-top dramatic tale in store!

Outrageous situations, bloody vengeance, loud humor—couple this with some really super sci-fi quality special effects and you have a scintillating action thriller at hand. Most of the moolahs in the movie were spent on the special effects, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that they have paid back in style. Rajnikant has mutated spiderman, batman, superman and the rest of the superhero relics with panache. However, Robot with its sci-fi body has a heart-wrenching soul too. It perfectly portrays the man-machine war, through its interesting twists and turns. The film gets pacy in the second half and almost unstoppable in the finale. Visual extravagance is at par in the last couple of minutes, wherein there is a thin line between illusion and reality.

Writer-director S. Shankar needs to be given a hats off for coming with a movie like this. Not at any point of time in the film, does the megastar image of Rajni overpower the excellence of the film. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the visual glory that the film creates impresses audience more than the charisma of Rajni. Yuen Woo Ping also deserves a round of applause for coming up with high-adrenaline rush stunts. Adding spice to the perfect picture is AR Rahman’s foot-tapping music and Prabhu Deva’s magnificent thumka’s. As far as the performance is concerned, we have nothing other than the word “flawless”. To cut matters short, ‘Robot’, despite its overdose, would be Rajni’s magnum opus in this career! It is definitely the pungent masala film that Bollywood needed as this point of time. Just watch it guys —you’ll keep wanting for more!! Mind it!!

Robot Hindi Movie Pre-release Review
The dynamic and highly-celebrated duo of Shankar and Rajnikanth are back with the year’s most expensive and much-awaited film ‘Robot’. This big-budget science-fiction and action-packed film is deemed to be the costliest Tamil film ever made, or more precisely, the most expensive Asian film ever made. Directed by the hottest Tamil filmmaker Shankar, the movie has been produced by Kalanidhi Maran and distributed by Sun Pictures. The signature fusion music has been composed by Oscar winner music maestro A.R. Rahman, while the lyrics have been written by Swanand Kirkire. ‘Robot’ is set to release on 24th September, 2010 along with its original version as ‘Enthiran’ in Tamil and dubbed adaptation ‘Robo’ in Telugu.

What do you get when you cross man, machine and mohabbat? This is the basic concept that ‘Robot’ relies on. The flick entails the story of a scientist and his hard-earned robot, both played by Rajnikant himself. Scientist Dr. Vaseegaran has created an andro humanoid robot named ‘Chitti’, with all the features of a typical human being: dancing, singing, fighting and resistance to water and fire. A sure-shot challenge to the real human being indeed! But what happens when this artificially intelligent Chitti, initially created to help human beings and contribute towards the country’s development, starts developing a soft corner for Sana (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan)? This is where Dr. Vasu faces the obstacles of utilizing Chitti for the main purpose so created.

Will Dr. Vasu be able to re-transform Chitti back into the exceptionally sharp-memorized robot? Or will he have to fight back his own creation to save himself? With the trailers on-air already creating waves about the success of the movie, director S. Shankar and Rajnikanth can only keep their fingers crossed. Ash fans will get to see their talented actor in a hot and beautiful new avatar. Shot across different parts of the world, namely, United States, Switzerland, South Africa and Peru, ‘Robot’ is expected to break all box office records only to create a new smashing one. Let’s wait will September 24th, 2010 and see whether the extraordinary pairing of Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai would be victorious in creating ripples among the audience or not.
