Love, ishq, pyaar, mohabbat is in the air. And Bollywood seems enthralled by it. LUV KA THE END and LOVE U... MR. KALAKAAR! have released, PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA opens this Friday, while KUCCH LUV JAISAA, A STRANGE LOVE STORY and LOVE EXPRESS are slated for release in the coming weeks. In my career spanning three decades, I have never witnessed so many movies with similar sounding titles releasing in such a short span. Oh yes, Bollywood is incomplete without love stories, but the frequent usage of the word 'Love' has been a rarity. These films, at least those that have released [LUV KA THE END and LOVE U... MR. KALAKAAR!], were aimed at enticing the youth -- their target audience. PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA does that as well.
Deemed as the most dependable genre [youth-centric rom-com], PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA is amusing, witty, sharp and contemporary, but it does some serious talking as well. Oh yes, it arrives with zilch expectations [bunch of new actors, new director, team of new composers are responsible for this entertainer], but the efforts are worth it and the time, well spent. First-time writer-director Luv Ranjan ensures that there are wild-whacky moments aplenty, but he also smartly integrates heavy-duty drama towards the concluding moments that camouflage the rough ends in the narrative.
Write your own movie review of Pyaar Ka Punchnama PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA is young at heart and contemporary. Having said that I'd like to add that it's not for those who relish the conventional rom-coms. The conservative and old school types may find the portions blasphemous and sacrilegious. Also, the film may be perceived as a sex comedy on the lines of AMERICAN PIE, but there's more to it. It's actually a satire on love and relationships.
PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA packs a solid punch, but you can't overlook the hiccups in this journey as well. Firstly, it takes a really long time to reach the finale. The creators of this film may argue, there are three stories to be told, but let's look at it objectively. The story stagnates in the middle of the second hour. Had the writer-director used restraint by narrating the three stories in a concise format, I am very sure, the impact would've only been razor-sharp and far more compelling that what it is.
Rajat [Kartik], Chaudhary [Raayo] and Liquid [Divyendu] are stuck in their boring jobs and crave for women to add some spice into their lives. The unfortunate Rajat soon finds one in Neha [Nushrat]. It is all so good and rosy till Rajat moves in to live with her. Chaudhary meets Riya [Sonalli], but she's still stuck with Varun [Padam], her boyfriend of five years. Liquid and Charu [Ishita] become friends at work. Charu likes him, but only as a friend. She is already committed to her long-distance beau, Abhijeet [Ravjeet]. Liquid takes his best friend role very seriously, only to end up being used in the process. This is the story of three guys and the tumultuous relationships they share with the women in their lives.
PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA isn't ground-breaking or pioneering cinema, but I have to state, it puts the fun quotient back into the movies due to its unsullied take on relationships, which snowballs into heavy-duty drama as it reaches the finale. Let this not mislead you that it's a sex-comedy with lewd jokes, sensual scenes and colorful lingo. It's not. As a matter of fact, the lingo is straight out of life, laced with some crackling and witty one-liners. Exactly the way the metropolitan youth communicate in their everyday tête-à-tête.
What also works in its favor is the fact that it's not the boy-meet-gal-and-they-live-happily-thereafter kind of beaten to death plot. It's a fresh take on relationships -- the relationships blossom, guys become puppets, but break free eventually. Besides, the choice of actors -- new faces all -- makes you relate to the characters even more. After all, they arrive without the baggage of an image.
Luv Ranjan knows the grammar of film-making right. Everything that you see seems straight out of life. He strikes the right balance between fun-n-frolic and somber-n-serious moments. Particularly noteworthy are the sequences in the finale, when the three boys have terrible heartaches and break down inconsolably. Prior to that the sequences that lead to the drift are well penned and dexterously executed. The film has an energetic musical score, complimenting the genre of the film. 'Ishq Na Kariyo Kaake' [composer: Clinton Cerejo] and 'Kutta' [composer: Luv Ranjan] are youth-friendly tracks and both have been lapped up by viewers. Sudhir K. Chaudhary's cinematography is first-rate.
Now to the performances. The newcomers, all actually, are confidence personified. The show-stealer is the plain looking Divyendu; you take to his character and also his performance instantly. He is simply outstanding! Kartik is a bit awkward initially, but his performance grows on you gradually. He's incredible during the final moments of the film. Raayo is confident, polished and completely in sync with his character. He conveys a lot through his eyes, which is the hallmark of a fine actor. The camaraderie between these three guys is superb. Amongst the girls, it's Nushrat who walks away with a powerful role and a power-packed performance. Ishita is efficient, especially in the sequence when she lashes out at Divyendu. Sonalli is perfect for her part.
On the whole, PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA has a single-point plan of engaging and amusing the spectators by telling a story which is unusual, yet relevant. It's radiantly good cinema that needs to be lauded and encouraged. Strongly recommended, go for it!

Story
Vasu (Aadhi) falls in love with Vaishali (Sindhu Menon) during their college days. Vaishali accepts the love of Vasu but clarifies him that her father’s approval is a must for the marriage. Her father disapproves Aadi and marries his daughter off to another guy. After a few years, Aadi becomes an IPS officer and Vaishali kills herself. Aadi is given the responsibility of the investigation. The rest of the story is all about how Aadi cracks the case and brings guilty to book.
Artists Performance
Aadhi (son of Raviraja Pinisetti) has sharp features and suited the author-backed role really well. His expressions are subtle and body language is effective. Sindhu Menon does a fantastic job in the title role which is bound to attract lot of sympathy. Saranya Mohan played the role of Sindhu’s sister and she is efficient. Nandha who did the role of Sindhu’s husband carries off himself well.
Technical departments
Story - screenplay - direction: It is a super-natural thriller that is dealt in a realistic way. Debutant director Arivazhagan Venkatachalam comes up with a film of new genre that deals with love, relationship, supernatural elements, investigations and societal nature in typical apartment dwellers. The director has stuck with an innovative narration throughout the movie. He is also technically very sound.
Other departments: Manoj Paramahamsa’s (Ye Maya Chesave fame) cinematography is of top-rate. He maintained uniform texture for the entire movie. Music by Thaman is a revelation. Thaman who has given popular music for several Telugu films like Kick, Brindavanam and Mirapakai has shown the other side of him with the music he has provided for this movie. Music (both songs and background music) is suave and technically brilliant. Production values and dubbing by the producers Shankar and Dil Raju are flawless.
Analysis: This film is the dubbed version of Tamil’s blockbuster Eeram. First half of the film is very gripping. Second half should have been more compact. It is a supernatural crime thriller and is very different from the films we see in Telugu. The success of the film will depend on how Telugu movie lovers embrace the supernatural aspect of the movie. It’s a technically good movie and is worth dubbing in Telugu. And makes a decent watch

Salman Khan had started a new genre of movie in Hindi from Wanted, mass masala movies in the likes of early 2000s Tamil and Telugu movies. That genre have its own formula like 2 to 4 fights, 5 songs, few comedy scenes, one girl, one or two ‘gana’ song (Dappankoothu songs), a long action scene in the climax and a happy ending. To list movies with this formula from Tamil or Telugu need few pages, and in Hindi – it all started with Wanted, continued with Dabangg and Salman Khan is back with the same formula, Ready.
Formula is simple now: Salman Khan + 2 Gana Song + few comic scenes to entertain.
Are you ready to leave your sense at home? Then you will have an entertaining section here. Ready is a movie which can be enjoyed as much as your flexibility of acceptance of logic less scenes.
A freak youth, Prem is a part of a very happy joint family. In a comic accident, Prem and his friends meets Sanjana, who was running away from her relatives. After few slope incidents Prem helps Sanjana to be in his residence and she wins everybody’s attention and heart. Everything looked cool until Sanjana’s past is revealed. Few villains from her past take her back to where she was earlier. Prem and his team sketch a terrific plan to get Sanjana back.
Story of the movie is nothing new nor have anything fresh for a Telugu film viewers while it might bring something relatively different feeling for North viewers. The movie starts slowly with few comic encounters by the macho man, Salman Khan. His quarrel with Asin brings nothing interesting except occasional laughs for Salman’s facial expressions.
Post interval viewers might wish for an early climax, but in drags as much as possible that too with many ‘so called’ comedy sequences were hardly anybody laughs. Everything leads to a rather ridiculous climax – the big, bold, goondas with different kind of creepy hair styles just changes to good, decent!!@#! People listening to the advices of Prem and his family!!!

What makes the movie interesting at-least for few minutes: Two to three funny scenes in the first and second half which brings enough laughter from the viewers, (Paresh Rawal and Salman Khan initial combination scenes) and one action sequence for Salman Khan fans.
Performances: Salman Khan had zero scope to perform and had enough scope to entertain. His screen presence is the backbone of the movie along with the two songs. Asin!! What happened to this Ghajini girl!, she looks odd, doesn’t look attractive and she fails to impress with his comedy timing as well. She is getting badly repetitive. She has to be more careful with her selection of movies. Leaving her performance, she looks good pair with Salman Khan. Their onscreen chemistry is good Paresh Rawal is good and his combination scenes with Salman are extremely entertaining, still at the end actor of Paresh Rawal’s caliber deserves better role.
Music: Dhinka Chika.. scores high, enjoy the song with Salman Khan fans, Character dheela too is very entertaining. Cinematography: Is good.
Overall: Ready is a Salman Khan fiesta all the way, his presence in such a freaky role is enough to bring his fans for multiple viewing. Dhinka chika.. is the best part of the movie.

Vaikuntapali Telugu Online Movie Review 2011:
Vaikuntapali Movie is the director had a very nice plot on hand, it is about how three friends move up and slide down in life that is compared to the snakes and ladders game - Vaikuntapali. It has an interesting character sketch, convincing and ingenuous performances but a confusing screenplay and disjointed episodes makes it fall short of being an engaging movie; it however has a touching climax wherein Krishnudu appears and expresses his gratitude to his pal.
Ajay (Kranti), Krishnudu (Chandu) and Ranadheer (Micheal) go through conflicting situations simultaneously yet they move on with life until a time arrives when each of their character takes a turn. The director portrays that there is goodness in every negative act and there is a certain amount of temptation, evil that changes with circumstances in every good human being.
Vaikuntapali is an apt title for the story, how people who think they are smart and are doing well are suddenly devoured by the snake in the game and those who are at rock bottom could surprise themselves climbing up the ladder of success. There are times when two players push each other and all of them might land in the same situation not meeting up with success. All this is based on goodness that we show and the resistance to temptation.
Chandu who dotes on his sick mother burgles an ATM in connivance with Micheal, a self-centred ambitious man, as they each need money for different needs. Kranti is a journalist who prefers the gun instead of the pen to settle scores with a corrupt society. There is another tiny parallel plot of Rajiv Kanakala and Satya Krishnan who enthuse life into the proceedings.
Unlike other mindless entertainment this one is fresh, could have been far better if the director had spent more time on the script and narrative. Despite the amateurish handling the actors wow you with their honest portrayals. Ajay surprises in a restrained role, Tashu Kaushik has a nice part, the romantic number could have done away with, Krishnudu is a natural and Ranadheer was brilliant.
Satya Krishna is back to her original self, looks sweet and perfect and Rajiv Kanakala like always is impressive, such a talented actor should be working in more films. If you are looking for a decent straight film in Telugu this week then Vaikuntapali it is, provided you ignore the structure and narrative.
