Wanted Telugu Movie 2011 Review:

Movie Name : Wanted
Movie Rating : 2.75/5
Banner : Bhavya Creations
Cast : Gopichand, Deeksha Seth, Prakash Raj and others
Music Director : Chakri
Cinematography : Rasool Ellore
Producer : Anand Prasad
Director : B V S Ravi

Wanted Telugu Movie Review :

Story Outline:

Rambabu (Gopichand) is a happy go lucky chap who does nothing for career, and doesn’t mind a ‘fight’ for the heck of it. Inspite of this, his parents love him completely because they think they have earned enough for him. Rambabu comes across Nandini (Deeksha Seth), a house surgeon. When the girl saves his mom’s life, Rambabu falls for her and chases her. After almost following her everywhere, saving her from goons few times, Rambabu gets frustrated and asks her what she wants him to do to prove his love for her. The girl asks him to kill Basava Raju (Prakash Raj) and company, as a revenge for killing her honest cop father (Nazar) and her entire family. Rambabu goes after the goons and kills them one by one.

Positive Points :

The first half of the movie has some interesting elements of narrative style. The director chooses to tell the story showing three different characters – Rambabu, Nandini and Basava Raju, and joins them all towards the end of first half. Gopichand is good in action scenes, though he has to get his comedy timing right. Deeksha Seth has a lengthy role compared to her two previous films and she looks cute in mostly traditional dresses. Prakash Raj, Nazar, Subba Raju, Ahutri Prasad, RK etc. do what they do in most other films too.

Brahmanandam generates few laughs, and so does Ali in a short stint. The movie is interlaced with some laughable comedy situations which come from Jayasudha and Chandramohan. They bring all their experience to make some extremely cinematic situations truly laughable. Otherwise the story is a typical revenge saga, which starts off differently, focuses on the love story and then leads to action sequences.

Negative Points :

Cliche works to an extent. Almost every story we see has already been told, but it is the presentation that gives it a different feel. This is exactly where the second half of Wanted fails. Even though the writer wanted to add depth to Deeksha’s character byshowing her at strange places with stranger men, we never know what she was doing there with them! The flashback episode, which was used to reason her character, focuses more on gore than on some originally done content! As a result we have a family killed in most inventive ways possible minus the emotions that such a loss can bring. Once we know the flashback anything after it becomes lengthy and the movie still takes few songs and fight sequences to come to an end.

Technical Performances :

Cinematography is just about good, though the songs have been shot decently well. Chakri’s music for the songs is good too, but he should do something more to accentuate emotional scenes in a movie. Dialogues are funny when required, but end up being too loud in ‘drama’ situations and too contrived sometimes. Editing is too sloppy and the actions sequences are too long to be digestible.

Karomasti Verdict: Wanted is a predictable revenge saga, that doesn’t have anything really exciting. It is only for Gopichand’s fans.

Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji: Hindi Movie Review

By Indranil Khan
Dil Toh Baccha Hain Ji is Madhur Bhandarkar's first foray into comedy film after lots of realistic movies like Page 3, Jail and Traffic Signal. A romantic parody with the comic touch that makes you laugh at regular intervals- that's what sums up DTBHJ.
Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is the story of three roommates- Naren(Ajay Devgan), Abhay(Emraan Hashmi) and Milind(Omi Vaidya) and how they fall in love with their respective girls and then get heartbreaks. Naren is the old type and feels ashamed to even discuss virginity. Abhay is the rotten guy and Omi his contrast- a symbol of innocence.
Shazahn Padamsee, Shruti Haasan, Shraddha Das and Tisca Chopra do justice to their roles given by director Bhandarkar. Shazahn is the sweetest of the lot, Shruti calculating, Tisca moody while Shraddha exploitative.
Out of a rating of 5 stars, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji gets 3 stars. The movie is nothing extraordinary to get etched in your heart for a lifetime, but is stuffed with humour enough to refresh your moods when you see it. The best way to see it is sitting on a sofa in a multiplex and chewing your popcorn with every break of laughter.

Ala Modalaindi Telugu Movie Review 2011:
Nani by far has been the most underrated actor until Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu came around. What you see of him in Ala Modalaindi is a completely effervescent personality. If he can bring out emotions strongly, he is perfectly at ease displaying a buoyant, warm and a genuinely amicable mood in the latest debut film of Nandini Reddy.

He is nursing a broken heart and so does Nithya Menon, both of them strike a rapport instantly even while hiding their growing attraction for each other. While one decides to speak out the mind, the inevitable happens, the girl has already been engaged. By the time she realizes he means something to her, he is dating an other woman. A series of misunderstandings later they become a couple but what transpires from the beginning to the end is a fun riot.

The director has been successful in delivering a neat rom-com, she starts off the movie with a bumpy ride, appears somewhat edgy and unsettling, heightens the curiosity levels and makes you wait till the climax to connect the thread; the result of which is the last forty minutes of the film is like the chunk of chocolate at the end of the ice cream cone. She basically keeps the mood even, surprises you at regular intervals and keeps the emotional quotient at a moderate level with the silly jokes happening every now and then in short pulls of a perfect balance of comedy and drama.

Nithya Menon is a dangerous girl. If there isn't an equally good actor of her caliber as her co-star he could end up looking like a fool. Supported by the script, Nani is a perfect match for her. The other fresh element comes in the form of Rohini, not once does she overtake the script, makes a surprise entry and disappears decently and with dignity. Ala Modalaindi has language that is cool and permissible.

Sneha Ullal is back and she does a convincing job. Kriti Kharbanda vanishes even before you take a proper look of her. The supporting cast coasts along with the narration, directors should stop giving Pragati the loud and barking roles. Kalyani Malik is suddenly happening, his music doesn't stand out as a separate entity, it is absorbed into the story.

Nithya speaks in Telugu, sings a couple of songs and sweeps you off with her nonchalant attitude. While Sri Ranjith Films recovers from the previous dud 'Happy Happy Ga', Nandini Reddy doesn't push herself into the industry with this cinema, she walks coolly making people take a notice. Take a bow lady!

Dhobi Ghat Hindi Movie 2011 Review:
Dhobi Ghat

Cast: Aamir Khan, Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra, Kriti Malhotra

Director: Kiran Rao

Rating: ****

Every year literally hundreds of thousands throng to the city of dreams, Mumbai. To cover so many dreams in a small span of an-hour-and-a-half calls for some brilliant filmmaking. And watching "Dhobi Ghat" will make you realise that there indeed have been very few debuts as stunning as this one.

"Dhobi Ghat" is the story of five characters - Yasmin (Kirti Malhotra), Arun (Aamir Khan), Shai (Monica Dogra), Munna (Prateik Babbar) and the city of Mumbai. After a one night stand with Arun, who is a painter, Shai, an investment banker from America and an amateur photographer, obsesses over him, while her dhobi Munna pines for Shai.

Arun, meanwhile, discovers a few tapes in his flat from the previous tenant and, watching them, falls in love and find a muse in the woman who has made them - Yasmin.

Each of the character is thus looking for something in one another, while the fifth character, Mumbai, simply stares blankly at them without comment or prejudice.

One of the best things about the film is its casting. Each of the actors complement the film, its director, and the city of Mumbai perfectly.

Each is believable in his or her own garb. Prateik is bound to become the heartthrob of the generation, while Kirti Malhotra's innocence has to be seen to be believed.

Real life singer Monica brings out the uncertainty of her character beautifully.

The only one who is a little out of place, and hence the small sore point of the film is actor Aamir Khan. He begins shakily and is self conscious, unable as he is perhaps of shaking away two decades of Bollywood's acting baggage. By the end of it though, he manages to get into the film's rhythm and gives a believable performance.

It is hence not Kiran Rao's luck that she got superstar husband Aamir to act in the film, but Aamir's luck that he is in this film, which will go down in the history of cinema as one of the best character sketches of a city and its people.

Very few people in the world have sketched any city with such tender love, care and affection. And to add to the lilting melody that is Mumbai in the film is composer Gustavo Santaolalla who gives a haunting background score.

Director Kiran Rao brilliantly manages to find a physical representation of Mumbai city, in the old woman who blankly stares at all the characters, but says nothing. The metaphor is simple but powerful - Mumbai is a dying, decaying city, but one that is definitely alive and watches over all.

And like the character of Arun who becomes a voyeur into the life of Yasmin, it is Kiran Rao that has played voyeur on the city of Mumbai.

Another good thing about the film is that nowhere does it slacken or lose pace.

On the contrary, it unfolds almost like a mystery, like a rose bud, only to scintillate the senses in full bloom. It thus might become the low budget indie Indian film that will finally make money like big-budget Bollywood fare.

In the end though, that wouldn't matter much to the audience who will find themselves somewhere in the film. Each one of the characters in the film is like Mumbai, and Mumbai is like each one of us who inhabit it.

Review
Story

Golkonda High School is in the verge of extinction as the trustees want to make money since it is a good real estate property. Board’s Trustee Kireeet (Subbaraju) comes up with a proposal of turning the playground into a coaching center. Principal Viswanath (Tanikella Bharani) opposes to that proposal vehemently. Kireet then asks the principal to show results if he wants to retain playground. Viswanath comes up with the proposal that playground should be retained if GHS’s cricket team manages to win AP level league tournament. Principal Viswanath summons for his former student Sampath (Sumanth) - an idealist who leads a dejected life. Sampath joins GHS as the cricket coach and he has three months to convert the disoriented GHS cricket team of 14 students into champions. The rest of the story is all about how he coaches GHS team to victory and in the process how he is gets his redemption.

Artists Performance

Sumanth comes up with his career best performance as coach Sampath in this movie. It is an idealistic and inspiring character. Sumanth’s diction, expressions and body language suited it really well. Sumanth is the right choice for this movie. Swati’s role is not connected with the main story line. If she looked like a playful teen in her earlier movies, Swati is looking like a woman in this movie with sarees and demure performance. Subaraju has a towering screen presence and he proves again his capability as an actor with this movie. In all his earlier movies, Shafi used to dominate the character. He played this character within the boundaries in GHS and he is highly impressive. Tanikella Bharani is excellent. Ravi Prakash is authentic. Though all the seasoned actors performed exceedingly well, it is the kids who are stars of this movie. All the kids who acted as students are extremely natural. Santosh and Sangeet (both of them are sons of late director Sobhan Babu) have acted as Gowtam and Varun. Santosh’s performance is intense. Varun is very cute. Srinivas Sai (who acted as kid Nagarjuna in Kedi) is terrific as hot-blooded youngster. Farooq who played the role of Micky is genuine and effective. Lalith who played the role of sardarji keeper is very good with his performance. I don’t know the names of other kids. But the all the students are perfectly cast. The old man who did the role of attendant is perfect.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: The basic story is taken from Hari Mohan Paruvu’s novel ‘The Men Within’. It is an interesting novel about how a coach trains a pack of disoriented students (each student has different problems in their lives) and makes them into a winning unit. Mohana Krishna Indraganti has simplified the story enough to suit the big screen. He has also used the scenic order (screenplay) as written in the book. Mohana Krishna Indraganti is a learned filmmaker who went to film school. He made sure that he has stuck to the sensibilities while directing the movie. GHS is a neat work by the director but the narration should have been pacier. The screenplay should have been more tight.

Other departments: This movie is an example of how the technical team can complement the work of the director. All technical departments have coordinated cohesively to come up with a complete product where no department dominates the other one. Cinematography by Senthil Kumar is an asset. This is his second sports movie after Sye. Dialogues by Mohan Krishna are good. There is an interesting dialogue about ‘magatanam’ towards climax of the movie. Music by Kalyani Malik is excellent. Lyrics and music in Jaagore Jaago is inspiring. S Ravinder has come up with authentic work. Shravan’s editing is crisp.

Analysis: Ram Mohan (Art Beat Capital) who produced comedy like Ashta Chemma as his first venture made a brave decision when wanted to make an idealistic and inspiring sports-based movie. The credit for this movie should go to him. Because of the freedom given by the producer, Mohan Krishna Indraganti could able to come with a neat product. All the cast and crew complemented each other’s work. There is an underlying message in the movie to the parents and students. At the same time, the entertainment quotient is intact. GHS might not have regular commercial elements, but has enough content in the movie to make you glued to the screen. On a whole, Golkonda High School is a different yet enjoyable film. You may watch it at your leisure.

Ragada Telugu Movie 2010 Review:
Ragada Review – Ragada Movie review: Nagarjuna’s latest movie Ragda is released today amidst high expectations. Catchy title, massy songs, beautiful girls and of course King Nagarjuna played big role in creating pre release hype for Ragada.

Did Ragada movie (review) stand up to the hype? Is it a wholesome entertainer for the holiday crowd?

Let’s get into the details of Ragada movie in this Ragada review…

Story:

Satya (Nagarjuna) is a macho hero who can bash up any number of goons without even having a scratch on his body. He comes to Hyderabad from Kadapa and saves GK (Dev Gill) from an attack. Satya joins the gang of GK, who is loyal to a big don Peddanna (Pradeep Rawat). Satya starts killing GK opponents who are also close to Peddanna. What is Satya’s motive behind these murders? Why does he do anything for money? These questions are better answered on screen.

Analysis:

Veeru Potla, who said that he is a great fan of Nagarjuna sketched a character which would be cherished by Nagarjuna fans. The story of Ragada offers nothing new. Even the treatment of the film is done as per the age old commercial formula. First half of the film is packed with good humor, energetic songs and high voltage fights. Although there is nothing unseen or novel in the first half we won’t complain much as we get our dose of entertainment. However, the problem arises in the second half when the actual story starts.

Director shows only half of the hero’s flashback and throws in some (un)expected twists These series of twists involving both the heroines reminds you of Bollywood hit film Race. Then he reveals the rest of the flashback giving a lead to the climax very ordinary and too routine.

After knowing the whole story Ragada looks hollow and pointless. Director only tried to woo the fans and attract the masses with masala elements. If you go for a film for watching fights, songs, comedy and beautiful heroines flaunting their assets, then Ragada will surely entertain you. But if you look for something new or search for a purpose, Ragada leaves you in agony.

There are lots of continuity problems in this film. Pradeep Rawat warns that he would kill Nagarjuna in few hours during the interval scene. But he completely forgets about the deadline and takes his own time to reach him. There are many such instances where the director took liberty to write dialogs which neither he nor his characters takes them serious.

It is like every other commercial potboiler which can make quick bucks at the ticket windows. Even if we prepare ourselves for an entertaining fare, Ragada still disappoints you especially in the second hour.

Performances:

Nagarjuna looked handsome and younger than his previous flick. His style and charisma are an added bonus to this film. Nag tried for Rayalaseema accent which didn’t have any impact. Anushka is gorgeous. She has outdone the rest with her unmatchable screen presence. Priyamani exposed her body more than Anushka to make her presence felt. On performance side, she had the upper hand. Charmi sizzled in a song.

Pradeep Rawat doesn’t have anything to do except howling and yelling all the time. Dev Gill who excelled in Magadheera is given a spineless character in this film. Kota Srinivasa Rao is standard.

Brahmanandam played a lengthy role and helped the proceedings. In fact Brahmanandam is the only relief in this over dose action masala. Master Bharat is fine. There is nothing to mention about rest of the star cast.

Technicalities:

Veeru Potla’s funny one-liners worked in few scenes. On a whole he does an average job as dialogue writer. Thaman’s songs are in sync with the mood of the film. But nothing stays on your mind or haunts you. Background score is good though. Sarvesh Murari did a fantastic job behind the camera. His cinematography is the biggest plus for this stylishly shot film. Marthand K. Venkatesh editing is slick but there are few jumps here and there. Production values are good.

Veeru Potla yet again wrote a story which is a rehash of many hit films. He simply followed the commercial path to bag a hit. He has the potential but is deliberately restricting himself to be branded as a ‘safe’ director. On commercial front, he is an average director and still has to do lot of work to be considered on par with Rajamouli or VV Vinayak.

Plus Points:

- Entertainment
- Nagarjuna’s style
- Anushka’s glamour
- Commercial elements

Minus points:

- Age old story based on revenge formula
- Second half drags
- Ordinary climax

Final Word:

The release time would be the biggest plus for Ragada. Holiday season and no big releases at least for next two weeks should help the film to get into a safe zone. It should work commercially but content wise Ragada is just ordinary. Don’t expect too much from this film.

Ragada Movie Review Rating: 3/5
